"They said 'If you do that, we will pay you and make you rich,'" Koss told Ars. "I was just thinking, 'Is there some kind of joke here? Am I being punk'd?'" It turned out that Koss was on the line with one of JCPenney's top lawyers. Eventually, Koss did release his app, which Gyft used as part of its JCPenney offer. His version is now on 1 million phones.
A bad review turns into a class-action suit. Two years ago, when Koss was still a Gyft employee, he wrote up a negative review of the company on Glassdoor. "If this is their attitude towards former employees, we don't need them," he wrote." But Koss didn't end up getting any compensationor even an explanation of why he wasn't paid.
