Can Glassdoor reviews be removed by employer?
Question: I read the post Should Glassdoor reviews be removed by employer? and I have received a couple of questions in response to the post. The questions are as follows.
Is there an option to request specific reviews to be removed from Glassdoor? What if I delete my comments on that employee? Can it go into their record? Answer: Thank you for reaching out and asking questions! I read your comments on the initial post and you mentioned the first two questions. I am not aware of Glassdoor providing an option for an employer to remove specific reviews; however, I did reach out to Glassdoor on Facebook and they said it would be fine for employers to make a request directly through the Glassdoor support center. Also, they made the mention that when someone removes a review it will not appear in the reviews section but it will appear in the profile link at the bottom of the reviews page.
This may seem contradictory because it sounds like this does not matter but it is actually important for the purpose of removing Glassdoor reviews from the company's profile and/or Glassdoor profile. The reason it is important is so if a company makes a request to remove Glassdoor reviews, it will only be displayed to people who are searching for the same job but they will also see any review that was removed directly at the top of the reviews page or the reviews section and this is where the review would normally be shared to all members. We found this with some companies, even as high up as the CEO and COO of the company can get Glassdoor reviews removed and this was never really explained in detail in the Facebook conversation.
Also, we found an employer posted on Glassdoor stating that they wanted specific reviews removed in the profiles of individuals who are no longer with the organization. We asked them what was the reason they wanted these specific reviews removed and they simply replied that it was because they did not want the review there. We then had another employer comment and let us know they wanted certain Glassdoor reviews removed stating, If they have reviews and I do not have them. Please remove and a link to the company profile with requests of these specific reviews removed.
Can employers see your Glassdoor reviews?
There are many stories about workplace reviews being one of the most effective tools for showing a potential employer your skills and talent, but is it even possible for companies to be monitoring and reviewing these profiles? And if it is, what can employers be looking for? We asked some experts to give us the low-down. There's nothing like a glowing review to get employers' attention, but with an increasing number of companies now using social media to recruit and retain staff, is Glassdoor reviews still as effective as they were in the past? For those who want a good reference, a great interview, or for people looking to work in an organisation where they already have a reputation, then this will be very useful. But are companies really going to read through the whole of all of the reviews for every single position that is posted on the site? Or are they just interested in reading positive reviews because they don't have time to read negative ones? According to LinkedIn, there are currently over 100 million professional job seekers and over 500 million professionals, and it's easy to see why. In a connected world where people can share information easily via online, networking has taken on a whole new meaning - so you can see why people choose to use the opportunity of their jobs to post an overview of their company. They can see what it's like in their new environment and what the opportunities are from an early stage and it might open doors to them.
One expert explained that a great reference can be much more effective than a 'glass ceiling'. She said: The difference between what you see and what the company thinks is important may create a 'glass ceiling' that is very hard to break. We all feel more confident about references from people who are senior to us - we know they have a track record. A strong recommendation from someone like that gives much more confidence to someone thinking about joining a career at a different level, so that's why the value of those can be more important than a 'reference'. We often see references that don't do that.
We don't recommend posting your employer reviews until the end of your employment contract, and even then, it's best to look at company reviews together with friends and family.
Can people see your name on Glassdoor reviews?
If your company is reviewed on Glassdoor then people can see your name as well. People need to log into the reviews that they want to view and make sure that they have Show reviewers' names on public Glassdoor reviews checked. If it's not checked then this person wouldn't be able to read your Glassdoor review.
My company doesn't have any reviews right now and we want to make sure that people can see my name. I'm on the first line of reviews so people can see that I'm the Reviewers Name who worked there. Should I change anything on my profile and if so what should I change?
If you would like to change your name on your profile please just click on the Change my info button. This will take you to a section where you can see the information you can update your email, date you joined the site, change your website URL, or just leave it blank if you don't want it changed. Then just add your name to the reviews where you will be displayed in your reviews.
How to post an anonymous review on Glassdoor?
I've been receiving a handful of emails lately from fellow Glassdoor workers looking for ways to post anonymously review on their own company's Glassdoor page. This email is coming from one of the most well-known and trusted career sites for a reason, and I'm glad they are asking how they can help those who are seeking to post anonymous review but have no prior Glassdoor experience. In today's blog, we'll cover what it takes to post a truly anonymous review and some tips for how to approach the process so it doesn't seem like your writing is coming from you.
Why Post Your First Anonymous Review? You have a business or career goal you want to achieve on Glassdoor, right? So why not take one for the team and write your first anonymous review? It's perfectly understandable to not like the company you're at, be it for the sake of the job or because of the culture in general. It's easy to blame the management and company culture on something they've done that you've disliked without actually doing anything about it or bringing any sort of change to the situation that would make you want to change jobs. Having a Glassdoor posting will allow you to let your employer know you're dissatisfied with their decision without them being able to do anything about it. It's one less avenue of complaining they can find so thank you for helping to make it easier for both of you.
As for those who are looking for a new company in the same space as your current gig, they aren't the only ones. The problem is, people who do post reviews don't tend to stick to it. The best companies with great Glassdoor pages have an average of 5-6 reviews, with the most popular averaging 4-5 (which is already plenty). The average person has had a boss, colleague, friend or family member write their first review on Glassdoor, which means not only are they more likely to submit their review, but it has probably just been too long since the last time they used Glassdoor.

Are employers notified of Glassdoor reviews?
Employers can access reviews through a public area on Glassdoor, including the overall rating, star rating, written job summary and the most recent reviews. If you have an account on Glassdoor, you can even look at reviews written by former employees of your company. However, reviewers are given the option to restrict their profiles to private. This restricts others from seeing what others have said about the business they work for and allows them to add new posts on specific topics only. If your company is one of these businesses, your employees won't be able to reveal anything further.
