Or just another scam? Thanks. Well, if you're asking if a "web scraping" company is willing to employ you as a web scraper, the answer is yes. If you mean web scraping in the sense of crawling, downloading, and then making sense of the pages you download, no. This type of work is still being done by humans. They might be hiring but it is not easy to find. Many web crawling services now take the data you scrape in an automated fashion.

What are the requirements for web scraping?

While not all projects for scraping require extensive knowledge of programming, it's important to have a base level of knowledge.

You can go a long way without being proficient in a programming language, but you still need the understanding of the language's constructs and how they work to scrape web pages effectively. Web pages also contain many elements such as images and hyperlinks, which are only available via programming and scripting.

A large portion of the information needed to scrape a website can be obtained by simply viewing the page source code or by running browser extensions. However, additional information such as the name attribute of the hyperlink or the content of the page itself are best obtained by scripting the page.

What is a browser? Any computer running a web browser has a basic set of software, so-called, installed on it. A web browser provides access to all sites that are configured to be open for incoming traffic and is very simple to use. It can also perform advanced functions such as opening a pop-up window, bookmarking and more. Popular browsers include: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer. Each browser is slightly different, but the features and basic functions are the same.

What is a browser extension? A browser extension is an application that runs as an add-on for a particular browser. There are thousands of browser extensions available on the internet, most of them free. These extensions usually increase the functionality of the browser by allowing you to visit different websites, manage bookmarks, block certain websites and more. Some extensions will allow you to remove the ads from the sites that you visit.

How can I check my browser version? All browsers should have a basic version number, but older versions are frequently updated with new features. As such, it is often advisable to check the browser version before you use it for your scraping project.

Hi @Klopfenbauer, I have never worked as a web scrapy/web crawler per se. But I can definitely share what I have learned with you.

The job is NOT as easy as it sounds. It takes time to learn how to find the right targets and how to properly use ancillary tools to do your work. For example, I have never used a proxy before, but I did find one that would not only provide me with the right target I wanted to scrape, but that would also provide anonymity for my browser. This means that I wouldn't leave any track of who I am and what I have been doing when I go on the sites and use my proxies. I know because I have been caught many times before. That being said, it's definitely time consuming. I just wish I had started this line of work before doing my undergrad, so I wouldn't have to be doing it. That being said, I can say that it does require some time and discipline to start with.

Your success is based on finding a target that is worth your effort (which is much easier than you might think). It also depends on your skills and experience.

Remember that most web sites use several layers of protection against web scraping, some more important than others. If you don't find a target that is difficult to get or that is protected by a protection method you don't know how to use, then it is worth it, but you have to have a high motivation to pursue those tasks.
