What browser opens blocked sites?
I have a problem with one of my friends who has a problem that I cannot seem to get under control.
He is an IT professional and the issue is that he has a site that he works on that has been blocked. There are some legitimate reasons why he needs to be able to access this site, but for whatever reason, it's blocked and he keeps trying to find a way to get around the block. I am not sure how long he's been trying to do this, but as of today, he's been working on it for nearly two months.
The problem is that we have tried going through most browsers, even in private browsing mode and none of them seem to open the site for him. When he goes to that URL, it comes up with a security warning, and he can't get past that.
We tried using Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Internet Explorer, and none of them are opening the site. He's tried all of the above on his PC, his Mac and his iPhone. We even tried going to that site with Tor, but it still wasn't working.
I'm thinking there might be a simple fix to this, and I'd like to hear what people think, but I'm completely lost. ? There are a few options when it comes to blocking sites you don't want your users to visit. The easiest way to block a site is to add it to your hosts file. This is easy to do and has the added benefit of being permanent. The downside is that if the site is ever blocked by your ISP, it will be permanently blocked. If you want to block the site for just a short period of time, this option isn't the best.
Another option is to use a web proxy. This is what most browsers use to connect to the internet. The proxy has access to the list of sites you want to block and you can add them or remove them easily. This is a great way to block sites for a short period of time.
There is also the option of using a DNS lookup. This works like a proxy, but you're telling the browser where to find a certain website. This is usually used for ad blocking.
There is also a third option. If you are using a wireless router and have it set up correctly, you can block specific websites through your router.
How do I unblock a website?
Most websites are blocked by parental controls and the DNS provider.
When a website is blocked, access to the site is lost. If your child needs to access a blocked site, you can unblock it in your child's Internet settings.
On a home network with no parental controls, set the parental controls to allow access to the required sites. On the PC where your child uses the Internet, open Internet Explorer. Select Tools from the top menu. Click Internet Options. Select Connections on the left menu. In the list on the right, select the connection your child uses to get online. Uncheck the box next to the blocked site. Click OK. Your child can now access the blocked site. To check for other blocked sites, type the website address in the address bar of Internet Explorer.
If your child has access to the Internet on multiple devices, each device might have its own Internet connection and parental controls. Access to the Internet might be blocked in your child's home network. See the article Using parental controls in another network.
On a home network with parental controls, set the parental controls to allow access to the required sites. Open Internet Explorer. Check the box next to the blocked site.
Open Internet Explorer on the PC where your child uses the Internet. Tip: If your child wants to use an alternate browser, open Internet Explorer on the PC where your child uses the Internet.
