Does Android have proxy settings?
I want to be able to use an online proxy server so my device can make calls and access the web.
I'm not asking about how to set it up, I've seen the list of options on the internet, I'm asking if there is a setting where I can tell my phone to use a proxy server. For any app which requires permission to use the internet, all internet settings (proxy settings etc) are stored at /etc/proxyconnections/. In particular for the Google apps this can be found at /data/com.google/cache/proxyconnections.
How do I setup a proxy on my Android phone?
There are many proxy applications available for Android, I have used one or two before and was satisfied with their features, but not all proxy applications can handle proxies that require authentication to work properly.
So I came here to find the best proxy for my phone.
After many experiments I have found three apps that are not only good but I'm satisfied with their features: Proxy Master. Vpn Master. The three apps work exactly the same and are very similar in most ways except for the UI. They're also free. Both Vpn master and Proxy Master can handle proxies that require authentication and both can be configured to use OpenVPN as well as SSL VPNs.
Both Proxy Master and Vpn Master were chosen for me because of the fact that I usually need a VPN when I use proxies. This means that I usually need an app to help me with that process.
Proxy Master is a bit better at handling HTTPS proxies that require authentication, this was tested by attempting to configure a HTTPS proxy and checking to see if it works. This is Proxy Master: Proxy Master is very simple to setup and use. After you install Proxy Master the first time you will go into the Proxy settings and configure the system to use the VPN and proxy settings.
Once you have done that you can now connect to the proxy from any application that can make network connections. Proxy Master has a feature where it will attempt to automatically connect to any proxy configured to use a particular protocol such as Socks4, Socks5, HTTP and so on. If it can't connect then it will show you a warning that the proxy may not be able to be connected to.
Proxy Master does not work with Socks5 proxies. I know the team told me it would but I've yet to try.
I can't speak for Vpn master but I believe it's similar to Proxy Master and it works very well. Proxy Master requires Android version 2.1 and higher Vpn Master requires Android version 2.2 and higher Proxy Master is a small app and so isn't as fast as Vpn Master which uses Java and so takes a few seconds to start up. Proxy Master is a bit faster than Vpn Master but still not as fast as a dedicated web browser.
