Does Skyroam work without cell service?
I am very new to Skyroam and was wondering if I could use my iPad to connect to a device without cellular service.
I know you can do this with the AT&T version, but how about the international version? Thanks in advance I would say no because the system requires a phone number. If your iPad does not have a phone number attached, you would have to manually enter it which is very difficult and also not secure. When you are away from a wifi hotspot or cellular network, you will not be able to get into the app and re-enter your phone number.
There is a new solution that bypasses this problem and works like a charm. It's called "Skyroam".
It works for both Android and iOS devices. Just install the app on your phone, then open the app on your iPad. From there you can call the phone number of your choice and all calls will be made to the Skyroam phone number. You can then take your device to places that don't have internet access or wifi hotspots and connect to Skyroam.
All calls made will be routed to the Skyroam phone number. The app uses your phone number to route all calls.
The app is free and available on both Apple's App store and Google's Playstore. @joey: I haven't used Skyroam myself, so I can't help you, but I will try and find out when I get home. If you have any questions, you can PM me on here or you can email me at skyroamsupport@skyroam.com.
I tried Skyroam today, and found that it didn't work for me. I've got an iPad 2 and an Android phone, and I had to be connected to a wifi network for the app to work. Also, as soon as I put the numbers in, it wouldn't accept any more numbers and told me to uninstall the app.
So it seems that you must be connected to wifi in order to get Skyroam working. Is this something that you can fix? I'd like to use Skyroam, but it appears it's not compatible with my current setup (and you're right, I'm new to Skyroam). Well, Skyroam does work without a cell phone number.
