Why is my Proton VPN not connecting?

Why is my VPN not connecting on my Mac?

I've been using VPNs for many years and have never had a problem connecting to them until now.

I am running the OS X Yosemite version 10.5 on a mid-2015 MacBook Pro. My VPN provider is VyprVPN (paid) and I have been using it with no problem.

This morning I was in a coffee shop and went to use my phone (iPhone 6s) to send an email. I was able to connect, but once the email was sent the VPN connection was lost. When I restarted my iPhone, the VPN connection was back. This would happen every time I used my phone until I left the coffee shop and came back home to my Mac.

When I checked the settings on my VPN connection in the System Preferences, it says: I have tried both the Windows 7 and 8 (and 8.1) versions of the VPN software, as well as the paid and free versions of the VPN software. I have had the same issue with all of them.

I don't know if there is a problem with the VPN provider or with the OS X version, or if there is something that I have done wrong. Can anyone help me? I have tried both the Windows 7 and 8 (and 8.1) versions of the VPN software, as well as the paid and free versions of the VPN software.

Thanks! What kind of firewall and router do you have? You should be able to use the OSX version with any vpn client that supports the native OSX VPN setting. I use the VPN with a small vpn-server I own myself. I have been using the VPN on my windows machines and my android phone. I cannot get my Mac to connect to the vpn. I have tried all the versions of the VPN client for OSX. All of them require me to change the settings to 'auto' before it will connect.

There is not a firewall on the router. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am able to connect my Android phone with the exact same settings as my mac.

Why is Proton VPN not working on Mac?

Hello All.

I am using ProtonVPN (protonvpn.com) with my Macbook Pro 2026. I have tried the regular (as-is) OS X El Capitan and a Yosemite beta. In both cases, the VPN connects, but I cannot get to the VPN page. The screen on the MacBook seems to freeze (lacks responsiveness) and I do not get any sort of error messages either.

Does anyone have any ideas about why this is happening? MacOS 10.11.3,
ProtonVPN 2.0 MacOS 10.12.3 Beta 4,

Why is my Proton VPN not connecting?

1 Answer.

I think the solution was to add this configuration into the app settings in the VPN Client Profile (in the Connect tab). IP Address and Subnet Mask. I set it to 192.168.0.x as my subnet on my laptop, and 192.x for my home network. I used the IPv4 address for the local network as a workaround, as this seems to work for my ProtonVPN installation. However, when using the IPv6 address, the configuration does not appear to be supported.

@snoopydawg@paulrussett - thanks for the idea to use the local IP address for this parameter. That definitely worked! I changed it to 192.2 and it works correctly now.
