How to install OVPN Server?

We will now walk you through the installation and configuration steps of installing and configuring your own OpenVPN server.

Before we start, you need to have downloaded and installed the OpenVPN Client application on your PC/Laptop or mobile devices.

This article is for those users who have already installed openvpn client on their PC. We assume that you already have a static IP address to access internet using your PC/laptop, laptop or mobile device. You also need to have OpenVPN certificate and OpenVPN Public key stored in your PC.

1) Install OpenVPN Server using your own Static IP Address. Download the OpenVPN Server package using the button below. Save it in a folder which has your own static IP address. Once you have downloaded and saved the package, double-click the zip file to extract the content and you will get a file named openvpn-3.7.2-win-ssl.zip (we name our file this way since this is the version we are working on, it will not always be 3.2)

Next, if you have not already, double-click the file you have just extracted and run the client. It will ask you for a user name, the password for the user and also a new password. If you have not already configured this, then, give it a new name (say OVPN Server), set the user name (say Test) for the user and give a password, if you want (say test123). Make sure that the "Client Authentication" box is selected and you are done. Your client is now connected to our newly created OpenVPN server.

2) Set up client and server side to work as an OpenVPN Server. Click on "Preferences" and there you will see the setting to select your own static IP address to access the internet. Click on "OK". The client will reboot now. Now, the client should have your own static IP address and you will be able to access the internet. The rest of the server configuration details are given below:

When you have restarted the client, you will be asked to log in again. Give it your username and a new password (it will ask you to fill in the new password). Click "OK". You can now exit.

5) Test the configuration by starting Internet Explorer and visit Google.

Is OpenVPN access Server free?

Hello, I am new to OpenVPN and have found it very interesting.

I would like to use it for a small server but am concerned about the price of the server package. I understand that the free version can be used on a single client, but is it free to run on a server? I am assuming that this would be the case because if you can create a free server on the client you would not need a paid server. If this is the case then is it possible to run multiple clients on a single server?

OpenVPN is free for the core product. You can also get a 30-day trial of the server with the client on www.openvpn.net

What you are thinking about is called "free-for-all" scenario. It is actually not supported by OpenVPN protocol. This is mainly due to security issues. Free-for-all is supported in commercial version.

We have a 30 day trial and unlimited clients. We are now also offering our own DNS service for the free version. The DNS service is offered for free because we already had it for our commercial product and wanted to extend that to the free version as well.

We do offer a 30 day trial and unlimited clients. I have not seen any indication of that. However, from the FAQ page: Is there a maximum number of clients allowed for the Free Version? Yes, the free version of OpenVPN comes with an arbitrary limit of 1,000 clients. Can I have more than one client on the server? No. In the free version, there is no way to load balance the network, so all clients on the server will share the same bandwidth. This is not a problem for most users, since the speed they will get from OpenVPN is sufficient for their needs.

I'm running a free version of OpenVPN on a web server behind a firewall/proxy and using the standard connection method.
