How do I stop VPN from blocking my internet?
I have a very high bandwidth network connection and I frequently use VPN to hide my traffic from people.
Recently, it has been interfering with the speed of my internet connection and it's so frustrating. I have tried a few things, like changing the route, restarting my VPN, but nothing seems to work. If I uninstall the VPN software, then I can connect to the internet just fine.
Is there a way to get around this so I can still use my VPN without affecting my internet connection? VPN is great for hiding your traffic from prying eyes, but if you're using it to slow down your internet, you're doing it wrong. Tin ManJun 12 '14 at 14:08. 1
The reason this happens is because the client is adding a route to the VPN subnet before the default route. JesusthejessJun 12 '14 at 14:23. 2
@jesusthejess This seems to be true with almost all clients. What do you mean by adding a route? How do I prevent this? Tin ManJun 12 '14 at 14:24. 1
@Tin Man I meant adding a route. When you connect to your VPN, the router adds a route for the VPN subnet on top of the default route (so that the packets get routed to the VPN subnet). This is what I meant when I said it adds a route. There are ways to prevent this, but it'll make your internet slower.

@jesusthejess, it is exactly how it's supposed to be, because the VPN tunnel is added before the default route. But if you want to disable it, you could configure your router to give precedence to the default route over the VPN routes. That will prevent the VPN from adding a new route to your system. If that's what you need.

It appears that your VPN is configured with the default route. The problem is that when the VPN is active the router only has access to the IP address assigned to the VPN subnet.
Why is Surfshark blocking everything?
Is anyone else experiencing an issue with Surfshark blocking all content and not letting you surf? I have a client who is using Surfshark and I've never had this issue before, but now it's happening all the time. They don't seem to be able to disable it, which is strange because the rest of the internet is working fine.
I can't see any reason why it should be blocking all content, but this client can't surf at all. If they can't disable it, then they can't surf. We're getting desperate for help.
I would be grateful for any help. Thank you.
Comments. It seems that the surfshark module is blocking your access. It was created by the website admin and is activated by default. You should contact your website administrator and request to deactivate the module. Regards. The Surfsara team. Posted 3 years ago. Michael james. Thanks for replying. We have managed to contact our website admin and he said that they disabled Surfshark (which was the only reason we suspected that it was causing the problem). He has also disabled it.
Now we are trying to test it to see if the problem has been solved. Thank you for your help. Hbriol. Have you been able to try surfing without the Surfshark module active and without the Surfshark module active? If so, this will give us an idea about where the problem may be coming from. The problem still occurs. I have a suggestion, since you say you've already tried disabling Surfshark without success. Instead of disabling Surfshark, try enabling it and disabling it again. This will give you an idea about what the problem is.
Why is Surfshark not allowing internet access?
Surfshark does not allow you to surf, download, or watch online video without a VPN.
However, I was able to download and play streaming video off of Youtube. Any ideas why Surfshark blocks internet access? I have read many comments from users on forums about there ability to surf the web without a VPN.
Surfshark's explanation is that it gives an extra layer of security on how you connect to the internet. You still need to have a VPN to connect to the internet when you're not on Surfshark's network.
I have been surfing with Surfshark since they opened up their VPN (I had been previously using my phone to use a VPN when using my iPhone). I find the speeds comparable to connecting with a different VPN service that I've been using in the past. I did try to download a torrent file when Surfshark was connected, but it failed on me.
I'm sorry that I've caused any confusion, but I have a similar question as that of the OP. The last few days I have experienced frequent disconnections when I have used Surfshark's service. I am unable to stream HD quality video from Netflix, while I am able to stream fine from other VOD sites. These issues have occurred since the end of October.
If it helps to clarify, I have been using the Surfshark service for 3 months or so now. When I try to watch video or download things from the internet (on the go or at home), I will experience internet disconnections every time about 10 times per hour. No matter what I try or use - IE7, Chrome, Firefox, Edge (and others) I encounter this problem. Also, the connection speed will also fluctuate in the times that these disconnections occur.
I'm pretty sure this is related to Surfshark's server being over-taxed with demand. It's likely that as more and more people jump on with Surfshark, that there is going to be more requests to the server and less server resources to process the requests.
At least, that's what I'm going with. I hope that helps to provide some clarity.
As for me I never had no internet problem.
