Which protocol is best for Windscribe?
After the recent change to the SOHO settings, I was curious which protocol was best for Windscribe.
I currently use the default protocol (SOHO) and it works great. However, I'd like to try out L2TP for a few reasons.
I like to keep my bandwidth usage low and I know that if I have to go through my router's NAT it will eat up a lot of the available bandwidth. I'd like to be able to connect from multiple devices at once. I'd like to be able to host my own private DNS servers and maybe use a different DNS server if needed. I'd like to be able to change the port number. If anyone has any tips on how to do this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks! Also, I've posted a question about the DNS server part as well. I'm sorry that I have not read all the responses. But for the most part the answers are correct.
You can use the SOHO protocol, you can setup the SOHO to use a static IP and connect to your router through a VPN. It's your call.
The SOHO protocol is free and works well. This option provides you with an additional IP address. You can have your own server and set up your own DNS server. You could even have multiple DNS servers to choose from.
If you want to use a VPN, you can use L2TP or PPTP and they both work well. PPTP is free but requires that you pay for a yearly license. L2TP is a paid service that allows you to use their software for free.
Personally, I prefer to use a dynamic IP. It works great and if it ever goes down, you can just reset your router to automatically get a new IP.
Just be careful to make sure your router is setup to allow your dynamic IP address and that it uses the same address for the VPN as it does for the SOHO. If you are having issues connecting, you may need to adjust your SOHO settings. In your SOHO settings, go to the Connection Settings tab.
What is the difference between TCP and UDP in Windscribe?
The traffic you receive from Windscribe uses a TCP connection, while traffic to Windscribe is sent on UDP.
However, Windscribe can be integrated with both TCP and UDP, as long as your application uses the same protocol for the incoming data and outbound data.
How many ports does Windscribe use? Windscribe uses port 53 to listen for incoming connections and port 80 to accept incoming HTTP requests. Any other ports will be used to deliver or listen for Windscribe traffic to or from the network.
Can I use multiple ports? Yes, of course! Just make sure that you're assigning separate IP addresses or subnetworks for each port you use. When I create an alert on a port, how does it work? When you create an alert for a particular port, our service will automatically check that port once a minute and alert you if any attempts are being made on that port by a malicious device. Does the Windscribe service block the ports it's installed on? No, and yes. No, because we don't block the ports we're installed on. Yes, because if you were to install Windscribe one of our test servers, the server itself would be unavailable in all instances where it was installed.
What happens if I try to send an attack using my web browser? This type of attack usually goes through your ISP, your proxy server, and possibly your local LAN or router. We're able to mitigate these attacks, which means that they don't cause any immediate harm to your device or network.
I found suspicious traffic coming from my network. What should I do? If you suspect that you've been targeted by a botnet, phishing attack, or malware (like a virus), contact the organization that controls your proxy server, router, or your ISP. If you think that the problem may not be malicious, consider contacting your network administrator or the provider of your internet services. They may have access to the data that identifies which of your devices have been accessing malicious sites. If it's not your own devices being targeted, you might want to consider contacting us directly for more information. We don't always have the resources to look into every issue that comes our way. We want to be proactive, not reactive.

What is the best VPN protocol for torrenting?
Is it more advantageous to use your own VPN than the one that a company offers?
You may think that I'm going too far, I do not recommend a single protocol to you. You should certainly pick your favourite one, but you are on your own when choosing this protocol. There is no benefit, but also no disadvantage. It's about your freedom of choice!
When it comes to internet traffic, you should use a VPN connection only if there is no other option. This is true for both private and business use. We have some options for both. If the protocol you use is very stable and you can expect no troubles with servers, this is what you should definitely choose. On the other hand, if the company or provider you choose has lots of servers, it will not be a problem if you will switch. You must be free when using a VPN provider because they can easily track your IP address.
Why do you need VPN? What is this thing? A VPN is known for offering a secure channel on the network you're surfing to access a service like an internet provider and protect your data and privacy in transit. However, there are many, many uses for VPN beyond security. Some of these uses include:
Evolving the way you use the internet. VPN may be used for any and all internet-enabled devices. While your device may not always need its own IP address (which may result in speed improvement), using a VPN may change the way that your device behaves and what you use it for. This is a great idea for mobile devices that don't require a dedicated IP address, and also for desktop and laptop users.
Private browsing. The internet is one place where people shouldn't judge the others based on their looks. A VPN makes it easy for you to keep everything confidential. You can browse anonymously without your real IP ever being visible. There are ways that your ISP can discover who is behind a particular device, so this feature might help prevent this from happening. You still won't really hide what you're doing, but nobody has a way of telling what you're doing.
Safeguard against malware, viruses and adware. Most VPNs can also function as malware and virus scanners.
Is Windscribe enough for torrenting?
We've been hearing a lot about Windscribe lately.
For most of the year they've been a quiet player in the VPN space, only recently making some noise with their plans to integrate into the major client of the day.
If you are reading this you've probably already decided which VPN service you want to go with, but Windscribe has always been an option for those wanting to dabble in the torrenting scene. Windscribe is a relatively new company based in the UK and was launched in January 2026. They have had some recent updates with the release of a new application and a few other changes. It also looks like they are trying to push their image with the release of a new website, which we'll cover below.
In this article we will be covering: Windscribe new user offer. The new Windscribe app and how it works. How much data does Windscribe use? What about Windscribe mobile? What other services can I use? Windscribe offers a limited time free trial, with a new user discount of 50% off the annual price. That means you get your first three months for free, although you do need to enter your billing details to be able to cancel or continue the service.
If you're still reading this, you probably have already signed up and are waiting to find out what the service will be like. The new Windscribe app works in a similar way to other VPN services. When you set up the VPN connection it will request a code which it will send to your email address.
In order to use the app you'll need to input your username and password, then select the Windscribe server that you wish to connect to and then enter the Windscribe code that you have been sent. This will give you access to the app, and you can sign in to the services.
Once you've connected you can connect to a number of servers depending on your preferences. There is a separate selection for each country that you choose and then there is the usual options that will pop up if you select one of the standard servers.
You can connect via either the mobile app or the desktop version of the app, though both apps work in the same way.
