Is there a difference between Netflix UK and US?

What is on Netflix USA but not UK?

And what is in UK Netflix that's unavailable on USA, including movies?

My girlfriend has been living in the UK for almost 2 years and just moved home. She told me a few weeks ago that we need to get Netflix, because even though she is now home she's missing a lot of things that I watch. For example, the most recent movie she wants to watch is The Martian but we can't get it (we've tried through various UK channels, even going as far as a VPN, no luck). I have an HD box, it does have internet, and both of us are on the same account so we only can see each other's selections from the US side.

She didn't mention how long were at our current accommodation, but our new one is coming this week (so, only 2 days) before I head back to college (which is almost 4 hours away from London), and we won't be there that long at the new place either. We're currently watching old movies from 2026 (it was her idea; she says it's relaxing to just watch a movie, and then when I'm next over we pick something together), but we'd like to start watching more recent stuff (she likes all the drama types; we both love Game of Thrones).

So we need to figure out what to do with our accounts, and we want to make sure we get each other most of what we watch since we don't watch sports or shows. My guess is that she doesn't watch American versions of shows because the UK doesn't carry them. My solution to this (we are already planning our new Netflix account for her to join, we've decided to set it up as an individual and just share a main account with both of us so she has access to everything), is to just keep all of the content that we need on our US accounts, transfer it to my laptop, and keep that. I'll take my Netflix abroad wherever I go. This will save us money because we only need 1 subscription, and I'm also willing to say that I'm in good terms with our ISPs at college. We currently get 6 mbps down, but most of that goes to data, so if it were up I'd be able to watch a couple decent sized TV shows.

Which country has the best Netflix?

experience?

(Photo: Netflix). There's no doubt about it, there are way better ways to spend your free time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with spending time on a Netflix original series or binge watching a season of a show that was on television years ago. Heck, who doesn't like a night of mindless TV, right? It's only when all of this gets mixed in with your hobbies, interests and everyday life that you start to question how you spend your time. And with more than 1 billion members streaming content and more than 45 million hours of video streamed per day, time is not on Netflix's side. As the company's global vice president of communications, Chris Rogers, put it: For consumers, there are two choiceswatch it all or wait.

A report published in August 2026 by media firm Kantar Millward Brown, showed that Germany, the UK and the US were the world leaders when it came to people watching TV and movies on their laptops or phones. Of course, this is because that particular country has Netflix, a service which was available in all three. However, the report revealed that Japan, South Korea and Argentina also had the best Netflix experiences, simply because they were the only countries that had access to the streaming service as a regular, monthly payment, like Netflix is meant to be consumed. So it begs the question, why is Australia so bad at the whole Netflix thing?

What is the biggest challenge for Netflix in Australia? (1) The biggest hurdle for Netflix is the lack of local content. If you're Australian, there isn't as much content of Australian interest to consume on Netflix as there is on other international Netflix services. Sure, Netflix has several original series and other shows that are made in the country, such as the comedy 'The Babysitter' starring Eliza Swenson and Luke Duffield from 2026. However, it's often not available if you can't watch it as a standard part of a package.

Is there a difference between Netflix UK and US?

There is not a direct relationship between Netflix UK and the US.

However, there is no way for Netflix to know that a viewing is happening in the UK or USA because the connection comes through one of their data centers. A user from one country will be watching a show or movie that a user from a different country is watching. But only the user will see his/her device or app and their home network, which is encrypted by the ISP's equipment. As previously stated, Netflix has a partnership with ISPs like TalkTalk, Freeview, Sky and BT and they have all installed the necessary security systems.

I know, but I would feel safe knowing there is encryption going on here. Also, the UK and US might have different laws. We're talking about copyright infringement, people!

The content was made for the USA so of course I have a little prejudice toward it. As someone else mentioned, I'm also very aware of how the USA legal system differs from the UK. It's nothing against you because I know you mean well.

There is no way for Netflix to know that a viewing is happening in the UK or USA because the connection comes through one of their data centers. It's the same exact encryption. The differences are simply a lack of licensing fees or lack of legal precedent and laws in some countries (I think you know where I'm going). In your words, "a difference in legal matters", in the most respectful sense.

What's going on? Is Netflix coming out with its own UK-based app soon?

Can I use my US Netflix in the UK?

Yes you can! Netflix is available worldwide, so it's just a matter of making the right VPN connection and you'll be able to use any of the service's content with ease. When you make the Netflix UK VPN connection, your VPN settings will be different from the default ones, as you will be connecting to a VPN server in the UK. This means that instead of your IP address being hidden from sites like Netflix, your browser IP address will be displayed instead. So if you have multiple devices, you may want to make sure you have the same IP address on each device.

To make the connection, first ensure you have enabled the use of a VPN on your device. Once you have enabled the use of a VPN, click the 'Connect' button. When you enter the web page for your Netflix account, make sure that the 'VPN Connect' button is highlighted. Then scroll down and select 'Choose a country and browse for Netflix.' You will see an option to 'Continue to VPN,' which you can select by clicking on it.

After connecting to your VPN, scroll down and select the 'United States' option. This will make your device automatically connect to the US Netflix servers. As soon as you do this, you will be able to view US Netflix content as you normally would. Your ISP or browser may display the IP address of your current location if you have multiple devices, but the data is hidden by the VPN, so you won't see any of your personal information.

How do I get free credit? You need to make sure you have a Netflix subscription on your account, and that you are signed in when you want to start using free credit. However, you don't have to pay a subscription for it. To get started, you need to do the following:

Open your Netflix app and tap the 'More' icon (or press 'Home' and then 'More'). Tap 'Free trial' under the 'Free credit' section. You will be asked to either create an account or log into one that you already have. Choose the second option if you already have a Netflix subscription.
