How to use Netflix VR on Android?
Here are the steps
This guide will cover all the things you need to know to use Netflix in VR on the Google Pixel.
However, the process won't be exactly the same on other Android devices. Some apps will work slightly different, some might work better, and your app may even require more work. We're going to explore those specifics, so you can make your own personal preferences on the Google Pixel.
First off, let's briefly go over some terms and concepts. If you want to dive deeper into the software side of VR, there are plenty of resources out there to help. It's actually pretty easy to set up Netflix VR on the Google Pixel. It might not be as easy as it could be, but that's a topic for another day. Today, we're going to take a look at the technical side of things, so you have all the knowledge you need to set up Netflix VR right on your Pixel.
Before we start, let's quickly mention a few things. One is the Google Daydream Controller. The second is the Google Daydream View. It's a headset that you can use with apps as well, which makes a lot of sense, given that there are already hundreds of movies and TV shows to watch on the app. The third is that Netflix doesn't work on Google Cardboard yet. This means we won't be using those any time soon. Don't worry about this issue; it'll all make sense when we get to setting up the Google Pixel. Also, Netflix VR only works on the Google Pixel 3 and newer, so you'll need a device running a recent version of Android. If you want a device to play Netflix VR on, I recommend the latest generation Google Pixel. You can also get the Google Pixel 3.
Setting Up Netflix VR for Google Pixel. Google Play Services for VR (Optional). Step 1: Go to the Google Play Store. You're going to head to the Play Store so you can download everything you need to make Netflix VR run on your Pixel. Start by opening up the Play Store on your Android device. After that, tap the Search Bar at the top of the app screen and type in "Netflix". It should appear towards the top of the list. Tap the card to go to the website.
How can I use VR on my phone without headset?
I'm not much of an advanced gamer, but I'm pretty good at playing mobile games on my Samsung S7.
One thing that I really like about mobile games is that they have the ability to use VR on your phone without the need for a headset, which is something I can't seem to get working on the Oculus Go.
What's the easiest way to get VR on my phone? Here's what you need to do: Install Steam VR from the Google Play Store. Download and install Steam VR Beta. Download and install the latest Android N Developer Preview from the Google Play Store. If you want to use Google's VR, install its SDK from the Play Store as well. Launch the SteamVR Beta and launch the app. It will ask you to create a controller (a gamepad will work fine) and it will ask you to select the default Android controller. Select the Steam VR Beta's controller.
Now press play and you should see the Steam VR Beta demo window appear. Now select 'Change to Game Mode' in the SteamVR Beta menu and it will start the game. You can now use the SteamVR Beta's controller and keyboard/mouse to play the game.
This works fine on my S7.

Now how good is that?
In the past the answer would have been pretty poor, but the technology has come a long way in the last few years. The new S6 does have dual 4K displays, which you can view on without holding it up to your eyes and you still get the immersive feel of the content as if you were watching it in 3D on a cinema screen. Unfortunately you don't get the immersive feel you get in a cinema because you're just watching something on a headset. But what if you had a VR headset for each eye, could you watch the film? And does it matter if you can see Netflix as good as watching it in the cinema? We find out!
Now this was a very important question for us. If we're watching a film on our own Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headset at home it's a much more personal experience than watching it on a cinema screen. Even if we watch on a huge 4K cinema screen, I can still close my eyes and be in the middle of the story with a cinema-style viewing experience. So how good does Netflix look on a VR headset? I thought it was only going to be really good in one direction; watching through a large screen with the best of optics (ie a 4K projector). But there's a lot more to it than that!
Here's the video that we took with a phone running a simple app (that is open source) to demonstrate this. Why was this test done? If you're thinking about buying a new VR headset to watch Netflix movies on, this is one of the most important questions you need to ask yourself before spending that kind of money. The most important feature of a VR headset is being able to turn your head around in space to get a 360 degree view. This allows you to look around the room while watching a film, which is what you're probably used to doing in a cinema. So I wanted to check how good that was.
We did all our testing in one room on the balcony at our house. We set up our phone on a tripod so that it could view the whole room from all angles.
The first test was just on the phone screen. And I'm pretty sure that you've already seen our conclusion to that.
The next test was recording the videos and watching them back on the device itself using Oculus Home.
How do I watch movies in VR on my Android phone?
In order to play movies with your VR-compatible smartphones, you need a software called OIPlayer.
You can search for OIPlayer on Google Play or in the App Store, and install it to your device.
After the installation of OIPlayer, click the button Launch OI Player and the OIPlayer app will be launched. You must have the headset on while watching movies, if you want to watch the full film in movie. But, you can choose what scene you want to see with the VR screen. For example, one can enjoy different scenes such as the beginning of the film, during the dramatic action, during a certain important action in the movie, while the movie is over, etc. Even you can select an entire film to watch and enjoy at the time of a trip or a holiday.
How do I share content among my friends? The easiest way to share content in a movie is using the sharing button on OIPlayer. Sharing allows you to post content that you view in the VR world into social media networks such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
If you add one or more of your friends as a friend of your OIPlayer account, you can share your content. After you share it, the sharing button will appear again and you can see a message regarding the sharing.
Please wait while we set the sharing permissions. At first, you can only download shared content when being logged in. By logging in with a Facebook or Google ID, you can view and download the shared content. However, OIPlayer users who are not logged in cannot view and download the shared content.
Is OIPlayer compatible with 3D headsets? When you choose any movie, if the movie contains a 3D film, you can change the setting as follows to watch the 3D film, as OIPlayer does not allow 3D playback to mobile VR. From the Movie Settings window, go to the Display Settings and turn on the Play 3D Content option. Then, launch the video.
Are there differences between viewing videos at home and viewing videos in a movie theater? While you are watching videos at home, there is no difference from viewing them through your eyes and hearing them through your ears.
