Why won t my SonicWall connect?

Is SonicWall Mobile Connect a VPN?

SonicWALL.

As the name suggests, it is designed to connect multiple mobile devices to a device in the office for easy remote access and sharing while mobile connectivity, like Wi-Fi, isn't available. What most people fail to understand is that the term VPN, in this case, applies only to the router side of the device and not the mobile app. As the device communicates with the internet via a mobile application instead of with the internet via an Ethernet cable, the application is similar to connecting a laptop to the internet by means of a wireless connection such as Wi-Fi.e. The benefit being no lag due to data transfer delays. As the data remains within the app, there is less likelihood of malware spreading over your data, especially if you use some form of security software.

Although, you may still need protection if you are planning to use your mobile device inside a public Wi-Fi network without using a data roaming plan. It is recommended for your mobile phone to have a data package with you that allows your device to roam or be in an area outside your home (for example in a coffee shop) without incurring any additional costs. Otherwise, if the device detects a roaming network, you would need to enter your account information again. Also, a data roaming package also enables your device to access public hotspots without being charged.

Does It Connect Multiple Devices? Yes, it connects your smartphone, tablet, laptop, PC or Mac. However, even though the Wi-Fi name says it supports up to five devices, your PC will still show that your mobile phone and tablet are connected, as long as you download and install SonicWALL Mobile Connect. Even if one of your other devices are connected via a wireless network, only your mobile device can be connected at one time.

Is It Mobile? It is not mobile, at least not directly. You need to install SonicWALL's mobile app on your smartphone or tablet to connect your mobile devices. On iPhone and iPad, you can also use the built-in VPN capability of the Safari browser.

Can You Trust It? Yes, in a perfect world, where there is no malware, spam, malware and other viruses. A mobile VPN is highly recommended for all users. In a world where your device is capable of being a malware factory, it's always a good idea to protect your device.

Why won t my SonicWall connect?

My SonicWall was built about 6 months ago.

We have a wireless AP as well as a wireless router and an ethernet connection in a separate room. If I connect the SonicWall to the Ethernet port of the AP, I am able to get an IP address. However, I am not able to reach the SonicWall from my computer. If I open the web interface on my laptop, the login fails. If I log in from a different computer, it will sometimes prompt for a login to another access point in the LAN. This is annoying as it means my phone is out of range. My phone gets a proper IP, but the SonicWall can't see it.

If I log in from my laptop, I am able to get an IP address for the SonicWall, but not from any other device. The phone will usually show that it's connected via Ethernet, but it doesn't show any connectivity.

I've tried the SonicWalls default IP and its IPv6 address and they both fail. I have also enabled logging on the SonicWall as well as the wireless AP. There is no error in the SonicWall logs or the wireless AP logs, only the login attempts to the SonicWall itself.

Re: ? The issue here is twofold. First, SonicWalls aren't really meant to be connected to each other. The goal of the whole thing is to get a single "clean" network, which is why you'll probably need to move your network to the same network segment as the SonicWalls. It sounds like you've got that figured out, since you're able to connect to the SonicWall from a device on the same network.

The second issue is that SonicWalls don't generally do NAT, so when you connect to the SonicWall, the first thing it does is check to see if it's already got an IP address from a DHCP server (which might be the case with your phone). Since it's failing to do that, it's not giving itself an IP address. When you go to the IP address page, it will give you a list of addresses that are available to use (or just leave it blank). You should then be able to ping it to make sure that it's alive, or at least know what address you're supposed to be using.
