When you set up your VPN, it sets up a firewall rule which enables the firewall to see VPN traffic as originating from one of your VPN connections.

If the firewall sees this traffic as VPN traffic it will apply the correct filtering rules (which should be set up with a SonicWALL VPN Policy), and so your traffic will be routed correctly.

As you configure your SonicWall Virtual Private Network, make sure that you add an exception for both IP addresses of your iPhone (from the VPN provider) and the IP addresses of the public internet servers on the SonicWall appliance. I think that it is going to be more complicated than that. There is no USB or other connection of your mobile to the computer. Its going to be wireless. So I don't think that it will be too easy to setup.

The best thing you can do is send them a SonicWALL account and see how they use the computer as it is now. They can get on the SonicWALL site and register it. Once they have registered the router is setup to forward to the SonicWALL account. Then they just login to the web portal with the username and password that they use on the SonicWALL account. This will save you a lot of trouble when you get to talking with them about how to configure it.

They have to take into account every little detail of the operating systems, and they do a good job. There are several other VPN clients out there, and we decided to get a head start on some of them.

To try their product, we needed to go to Starbucks with our smartphone and our laptop. If you are one of those people who can't get WiFi at Starbucks, you might want to read this first. You can use that time to make sure you are going to be able to connect to a free WiFi network.

After trying to connect with our own IP addresses, SonicWall Mobile Connect was not an option on any device we tried. We then asked a couple of our friends who were also doing the same test, but none of them could connect.

None of our devices had any luck with the SonicWall Mobile Connect site when we tried to connect, even after we verified that our phone number and security questions were correct. If the SonicWall folks wanted us to test their application with WiFi provided by another company, or maybe even with one of their own routers, they should have been more upfront with their testing. They did not tell us that the site wasn't designed for testing, and if that is what they had in mind when they set it up, they should have known better than to try to pull off a test. As for not including their other VPN clients, that is the one feature I would look for when choosing a mobile VPN provider.
