Should I set proxy on or off?

What is configure proxy and should it be on and off?

I'm having a bit of trouble with my PC.

I have Win7 64-bit Ultimate, and I'm trying to watch videos online from my laptop (Dell XPS 13). I have some software that tries to configure a proxy, but I'm not sure if I'm getting a good connection. It says I'm connected, but it's very laggy and I have to keep turning on and off the proxy.

I have this software called "Connectify Pro" (found here: ). I've tried turning it off and on, but it seems to be stuck in a loop. When I turn it on, it shows me connected, but when I turn it off and back on again, it says I'm connected.

I'm trying to watch videos on Youtube and other sites, and they don't load correctly. There are two different things happening. Sometimes I can't get any video to load. The second thing is that when I do get the video to load, it's laggy and I have to wait a few seconds before it finally loads. I have the latest updates for Chrome, Firefox and Flash.

I'm having the same problem as mentioned in the OP. After installing the Connectify Pro and configuring the proxy, every time I reboot the computer, I have to start all over again. I have the same issue with Connectify - I cannot connect using the default configuration (I use the internet via a Wi-Fi router).

I have a similar problem. I'm using Windows 7 x64 with IE 8, and I'm trying to watch movies on Youtube. It seems that when I change the proxy settings, it takes a long time for the connection to work, and after I turn it off and back on again, it works.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with my problem? I have the same issue with Connectify - I cannot connect using the default configuration (I use the internet via a Wi-Fi router).

Should configure proxy be on on my Iphone?

Question: Should I configure my iPhone to use a proxy?

I've looked at the various articles on this site and the internet in general. But I'm not sure what the consensus is. The issue seems to be whether you are trusting Apple or some third party to decide if it's safe.

I ask because I have a friend who has a similar phone (4G) but without the proxy option. I can't see what the difference between them is that would make that decision.

For my own purposes I would use a proxy, but I know there are people who feel a bit nervous about using one. There are three reasons I might want to use a proxy: 1) I trust my provider, but do not trust a friend. 2) I'm in a country where they have blocked certain sites. 3) I don't want my ISP to know where I am. The first two seem fairly safe, though in my case I am in a country that blocks certain websites (not the government or anything like that). The third seems a bit dangerous, but I am willing to accept the risk.

So, my question is: 1) Is it dangerous to use a proxy with an iPhone? 2) If I can't use a proxy, what is the difference between my friend's phone and mine? 3) Are there any other advantages or disadvantages to using a proxy? The only thing you're really exposing when using a proxy is the port used for HTTP connections. HTTPS is a different beast. It uses the same port as HTTP and thus isn't exposed through a proxy. So you could use a proxy if you were connecting to some type of site that used HTTPS connections.

If you were going to connect to the real site for another purpose (like logging into a banking system), then yes, the proxy would expose the port. Otherwise, no.

Should I set proxy on or off?

As you can see, there is no direct "On or off" setting for proxying.

However, one of the most used and powerful features of Tor. The "Hidden Services", is dependent on a proxy setting. Does it make sense that a setting to do nothing is the default setting? Shouldn't it be "off" by default? I would think that with all the work that's gone into setting up Tor. Users want the feature to work, and they don't want to have to think about it. What's your take on this? Posted on: Mon, 24 Oct 2025 12:17:25 -0400. Hi,I am not really sure how Tor is supposed to work but if you have the browser up already then its already set to use Tor as it should be. I don't know where the default setting is but I know that if you were to start using Tor and wanted to change it but didn't know where the setting was or if it could be changed, there are two places to set it which are: go to the settings (or preferences if it looks a bit different to most browsers). In the .torrc file.

If you just type 'tor' in a terminal window you should be presented with the standard configuration of Tor. To change it, press F2 and edit the configuration file. There are some good tips and guides at the 'tips' pages on the tor site.

I suspect that if you haven't been using Tor already then it will just appear on your browser as it should be as it would be anyway. Go to the settings (or preferences if it looks a bit different to most browsers)
