I am new to the mac and I have a question. I am using a Macbook (8,1) running on Mountain Lion. I installed a proxy or anonymizer in the network settings of the computer. Now the proxy or anonymizer seems to be running and even is shown in the system profiler.

When I am trying to turn it off in the system profiler it says it can not turn it off because the proxy or anonymizer is running. I also tried the following in the terminal: killall proxyserver. Killall -STOP proxyserver. Killall -HUP proxyserver. Killall -9 -STOP proxyserver. I am not sure if I did all these right. And I have also restarted the computer and turned the computer off and on several times.

Did you close down the browser, or did you quit the system? You could restart the System profiler and see if the proxy is listed, and if not, the anonymizer is listed.
