Is Surfshark really secure?
I am writing this after surfing the darknet and after a very interesting conversation with another person on the board.
I had this person look at Surfshark's code to check if it is safe. A friend of mine had his account hacked, and I was curious about it as well. We both did what they did in the article below and surfed the darknet. They say it's not the end of the world, but I still see a few reasons why anyone might want to be very careful. The whole story starts to go in a direction that is probably not what you would want to happen.
We decided to try to contact the company and ask for some type of security review or audit of their software because we noticed a few very small issues that gave us our suspicions about their software. You won't read anything good about them, but in order to help Surfshark out I put together some of the issues they have had, or people on the public forums have had: They use SHA1 hashing, which has been obsolete for a while and has been replaced by several new SHA hashing methods. This issue may or may not have an impact on security, but certainly does not make a website secure.
An email was sent to me claiming it's a bug and they will never do such a thing. A post from someone saying they were having an extremely slow connection and their IP address ended up being banned by their host (which is probably just a coincidence). So with a few small things, there are a few red flags flying around Surfshark. The site itself looks fine, but it doesn't guarantee security in any way.
So here's my test: I did all of the things they did and I didn't have a problem, but they said their website did a ton of things that could not be bypassed and therefore it's not secure. This made me think that since this was a simple website, maybe the website is no more complicated than these other ones and the only difference is that they got into the server they put up, and the ones I ran into only got into the server they put up. There's no difference in any of the actual security, just the fact that they were able to get through whatever system they were talking about.

NordVPN Review: What Is NordVPN? NordVPN is a provider of virtual private network services. A VPN is a piece of software that can make your internet connection appear as though it's coming from a different country. You can use a VPN to protect yourself while browsing the web. A VPN will hide your IP address, making it difficult for someone to track your browsing habits.
NordVPN allows you to get access to sites and services that are restricted in other countries. This can be useful if you live in a country where internet freedom isn't a given.
For instance, in China, you're allowed to use VPNs, but it's against the law for Chinese citizens to download torrents. With a VPN, you can surf the web without worrying about being traced.
Most VPN services use a kill switch. This feature lets you know when your connection has been compromised, and will kill your connection if it goes down.
A good VPN service should also keep you anonymous while you're online. It should also have strong encryption.
And if it has all of these features, it should be fast and easy to use. But, even though NordVPN uses some of the best technologies available today, it doesn't have a lot of user reviews.
