How do I update my NETGEAR AC1900 firmware?

My router's OS has expired, so I can't update it directly.

I need to update the firmware through this serial console. But don't know what kind of serial port this router has. I don't know what to set the baud rate and type of RS232 to. Can anyone help me? It will not connect to my router and only connects sporadically. The Netgear tech support was no help and I was advised to update the firmware. I can't find the updated version of firmware and I have tried multiple versions of the modem and they all say they are up to date. Can someone help me locate the correct firmware?

If you have already tried the latest firmware and it is still not working, then you may need to replace the modem with a new one. Sorry I missed your message. I don't have access to the modem right now. It is still in warranty. Can you give me instructions on how to download the firmware? The modem is the "SMC2661E".

I also need to know what is wrong with the modem as it will not connect at all to my router and my computers. It will only connect sporadically and when it does connect it stays connected for a short period of time and then it drops.

First, do you have a web browser? If so, go to www.com and look for the latest firmware for your modem. If you need to download a specific firmware file, you can find it on the netgear website in the downloads area.
