Why isn t my BB8 working?

I have an issue with my BB8 which is to say it isn't working. It used to be, but then I did an update which I can't quite remember what it was. Now when I press the button on the front of it, it lights up, but nothing happens. It is a black BB8 that I bought for 29 from amazon.

I've tried unplugging it, and it doesn't work in that state. I've tried reinstalling the app that allows you to view the battery life, and it doesn't work with that either.

I've tried to see if it was a problem with my phone by having it with a non-rooted device and it still doesn't work. I've also tried doing the reset thing and that didn't work either. I've also tried using a different USB cable, but that didn't work either.

It used to work when I first got it, but now it isn't working, and I can't think of what I might have done to cause this. I really want to use my BB8, as it is the only one I have now.

Well, first of all, if it works on a non-rooted device, there's something wrong with your phone. Secondly, if it worked before, it must have worked again after the update. Finally, the first two things can be proven easily with a little bit of searching.
