Is it worth watching Gangland on Netflix?
Gangland is one of the rare Netflix original series which I actually enjoyed, and I'm surprised to hear that it's being dropped from the service.
Is it worth watching? (Note: if you want a spoiler-free review, you can skip to the next paragraph).
Now, when I first watched Gangland, I had to consciously remember not to compare it to the original series in my head. It was so much better that I had to remind myself not to compare it to the TV show. And then I went out and bought the box set, because that's what they do on Netflix.
Gangland tells the story of a street gang leader named Frank The Fixer Taglia who gets too greedy. So greedy, in fact, that he tries to kill one of his top lieutenants. What follows is a long and entertaining story about betrayal, vengeance, revenge, retribution and a lot of other words that end in -dent.
It's clear that the producers of Gangland wanted to make a serious TV show. So serious, in fact, that you get this weird thing happening where some things are just kind of thrown in for no apparent reason.5 million. This part of the show ends up feeling like a cross between the extended season 8 epilogue of 24 and the final few minutes of Burn Notice. Just as you think they're going to wrap things up, all of their problems are dealt with and they just cut back to the beginning.
Still, I'm happy to give Gangland a shot. The action isn't bad, and the performances are all good. You can tell that they really poured a lot of time and effort into this. They also put a lot of thought into the story.4 million on an extended post-credits sequence, then so be it.
So, is it worth watching? If you're in the mood for a crime drama, it's probably a good place to start. And the ending does redeem the whole thing, in a way.
Is Ganglands a good show?
It's not great.
It was made as an excuse for you to see some good looking guys on screen, that's about it. But the writing isn't even the point. People hate on it because it looks at the gangs in a comedic manner, and people just hate comedies.
The show is about gangs in the '80s with their stereotypes. These are people I've never met who would probably never talk to me in my life if I saw them on the street. It's not realistic. The guys don't look like me. I don't even look like the gang leader we see at the end of every episode. And most importantly, their attitudes aren't true to life.
If you love drama, though, this isn't it. There are few characters in this show. Even the most popular guy we see is a comic relief character. The characters are more funny than realistic.
It's also just an excuse for you to see Johnny Sins without even knowing who he is. It doesn't matter because you don't need to know the history of his character, you need to see him on screen and get to know him better than you already know about him. He's pretty fun to watch and the sex scenes don't disappoint either.
I love this show so much I bought a shirt saying I'm a Gangster. It's on the back of my shirt where I can't even see it when I'm riding my motorcycle. If I wore anything else, though, my shirt would have to be removed because I'd be too self-conscious.
That's why I recommend this show. It doesn't require you to like it, it doesn't ask you to take sides, and it doesn't ask you to try and find meaning in it. The show only has one story. A story about us and the times we live in. It's about people being a little more selfish than they need to be. It's about having sex with someone we shouldn't even consider having sex with. It's about all those clichs. It's about how stupid all of us are at the end of the day.
Is Ganglands Netflix dubbed?
The second season of the Australian gangland drama is due to be released next week
The second season of Ganglands is set to be released on Netflix on June 4.
The first season of the Australian gangland drama was released on the streaming platform in April. It was renewed for a second season in March, with creator Mark Fergus and producer Andrew Buckland both returning for the next instalment. "I love that we've been able to use Netflix as a platform to bring this project to life," said Fergus. "I'm so proud of what the cast and crew have done.
"This is a series that has a lot of heart, and the passion and commitment of the team has shone through." Ganglands tells the story of the fictional crime family who run an illegal drug business and fight with rival gangs across Sydney's underworld. It stars Adam Driver, Ben Mendelsohn, Hugo Weaving, Natalie Dormer, Damon Herriman, Ben Chahlan and Jessica De Gouw. Netflix also recently announced that it would be making a documentary series about the late gangster Carl Williams. Gangland: the documentary will be screened on the platform in the autumn and will chart the rise of Carl Williams, who led a criminal empire from his base in the western Sydney suburb of Kingsgrove. The docuseries will look at how Williams built a criminal empire and how he was brought down by the state of NSW, leading to the formation of the taskforce, Operation Belcarra, that eventually led to his death in 2025.
