1) What is it? The first question one needs to have answered is What is it for?" or in other words "what is it? Answering this question involves looking at what is Remote ID (RI), how it was introduced to IKEv2, who initiated it, and what is the purpose of that unique identifier. If the ASI is an encryption mode attribute then this value is used as a bit in the context where it is included to indicate whether the IKEv2 Protocol parameter is an encryption mode attribute or not.

It is clear that this Remote ID has a different use than the existing ones that have been used previously in IKE versions. When you have seen that Remote ID attribute before, when it came to an existing VPN negotiation, it signaled the server so that it would respond in a certain way and when you saw that attribute after the server (with the intention of doing something wrong), it stopped the response. With Remote ID, however, it's just a value in an attribute.

What is the username and password for IKEv2 VPN?
