Does Windscribe hide your IP from ISP?
I recently installed a Windscribe service to protect my internet activity. I signed up for the free version of Windscribe for 7 days, they said they would record my web browsing and sent me a link to my private account which only has access to that info and nothing else.
The email said they are credibly suspected of not tracking you in any way but I don't know how to prove that. I don't see any mention of privacy in their terms of service. Do I have something to worry about here?
Windscribe is just a VPN, that's it. You just connect to it and give it the URL of the website you want to visit and it will route your traffic through its servers instead of yours. It doesn't care if you're a bot, or anonymous proxy, or an ad blocker, or anything else. You're not giving it any information that it shouldn't already have.
The fact that it's called a "VPN" means that it provides you with privacy over your actual network traffic. If you're on your wifi network at home and browsing the web, it can't see that you're using your computer, or know what websites you're going to. It's like an encrypted tunnel for your traffic.
I used to use VPN for work at a few different companies and I couldn't tell you one time I was on a secure network, and another time, when I didn't want to be. It's not as private as people think it is. If the company running the network has access to your traffic then your traffic is theirs. At least with Windscribe, all traffic passes through their servers (like with Tor, which you also mentioned).
With a VPN you're trusting them with access to your traffic and that access could be granted at any point. So yes, they should know the content of your traffic, but only for as long as they say they do. This is because if they don't know the content of the traffic they can't help you do anything malicious on the network they control, but if they do know the content then they can.
I personally use VPN for work at my house and VPN for my personal life. I think it's more trouble than it's worth for personal use. Especially if it's going to cost you money.
Is Windscribe free safe for Torrenting Reddit?
By now you probably know that BitTorrent and Usenet are two methods of sharing files. While Usenet is known to be safe and secure, BitTorrent has a darker side in that users can steal your bandwidth and/or data. Is Windscribe good for piracy?
The free web-based service that offers UK residents a VPN connection and other web security features. Windscribe was started by British computer scientists and developers and claims to offer better protection against web-based malware than the competing service, VyprVPN.
This post is not about whether Windscribe is good or bad, it's about my experience with the service, and whether it might be an adequate replacement for VyprVPN. First of all, why should I even consider using it? If I'm a UK resident then I need to check whether my ISP's 'acceptable use policy' allows me to use a VPN service. Since I live in Sweden, I can't use my ISP's services at all (not without some serious legal complications), so I would need to choose a VPN service which I can use if I were in the UK.
So how good does Windscribe really look? Is it as secure as advertised, or should I rather look at something else? What is Windscribe? Windscribe, as its name suggests, is a free and open source program that lets you securely access the internet over VPN. According to the website, Windscribe is a free, secure, and open-source VPN service for the UK. It claims to have been developed to help prevent online threats from entering your computer while you're browsing the web. It also claims to be a more secure alternative to other online VPN services.
Windscribe is available for both Mac and Windows systems. I've tried the Mac version and found that it works as advertised.
To use Windscribe you will need to download its client from their website, make sure you read the installation instructions carefully, and then use the client to connect to Windscribe. The instructions are a bit confusing at first but after you've followed the steps they are easy to understand. Once you've done this you can start using Windscribe to browse the internet securely.
There is a nice little video on the Windscribe website that demonstrates how to install and use Windscribe. The video is short but it clearly shows how to create a new user account and how to log in.
The service comes with free apps for both Mac and Windows, but there is also a paid app available for Mac users.
