Is it camellia or camelia?

What does a camellia flower symbolize?

The name "camellia" is believed to come from a 15th century Spanish physician, Dr.

Juan Gonsalvo de Camellos (1463-1525), who was said to have been a professor of medicine and botany, whose father, who taught mathematics in the Roman College, was reported to have been the discoverer of the seven planets. The flowers were named for him.

Some people believe that it's a metaphor for life, which is a tree, growing in an eternal cycle of blossoming, rotting and flowering again. The reason why it was named this way could be that, back then in the 16th century, the first known camellias were imported from Japan, where they were used in funerary ceremonies. According to wikipedia, they are commonly associated with weddings and the season of spring.

What month do you prune camellias?

It seems like this should be done in the fall when the leaves are mostly yellow and dying, but I've been pruning mine a month or two ago after they've had their initial spring growth.

My camellias have gotten pretty large, maybe 30 inches tall, so in that size it's a lot easier to just cut them down a foot or two above the ground and save the hassle.

I think it was a pretty successful prune. I have one huge branch with 4 or 5 new nodes sticking out of it right now. There are also 1-2 small branches with several new nodes on each one, which is really neat. The next year I think I'll give it another quick trim.

Just looking at pictures, I think the branches I cut off are going to have very little growth next year because I cut so close to the point where I have to break it. I still need to do more research. I guess if there is a ton of side shoot it might grow well next year though. I had to prune the top of another one just because the top third or so of it looked ugly. The rest of it looked like a flower.

It's hard to prune the top without damaging anything from below. We didn't know this, because we kept taking out new plants until I noticed the "flower" in the photo below in the wrong spot and moved it to another location.

In botany, the answer is botanically, there is no "better" plant, or even an "excellent" plant. Flowers are often "pretty", but the best thing a plant does is to propagate itself through seeds or seedlings.

If you look at any plant that spreads naturally, you will find it has evolved to do so. Those "best" plants have the mechanisms in place to make them self-propagating. If you want the most beautiful flowers, I suggest you look for another way of being beautiful; be a good mother, a great artist, etc.

Camelia has been around much longer than the now ubiquitous camellia. However, the latter is much more common, probably because of its ease of culture, propagation, and use in landscaping.

I like to think of camellias as the pretty girls of the flowering plant world -- you see them everywhere, but they don't get much respect until they're done well. Camellias may not win any awards for bloom or color, but they certainly have style and grace.

Your questions about the flowers is answered here: What's the difference between Camelia and Camellia? This may also answer your question. Camellias tend to be more popular because they are easier to grow, propagate, and give us beautiful and showy flowers. In the US camellia's have gained a wide variety of cultivars and we have different names for them depending on the exact species of camellia involved. In Europe, the common name is just Camellia.

Camellias also have the advantage of a wide variety of cultivars and many times we can hybridize varieties together to develop new cultivars that are just not possible with camellia. You may also be interested in how Camellias are propagated. Camellias are generally grown from seed, but the seed germinates very slowly and takes about 7 to 8 months before it begins to grow into a full plant.

What is the meaning of Camelia?

The answer: The rose has long been the sacred flower of love.

When you give yourself to the Lord, he gives himself to you.

The Lord doesn't call me a Camelia he calls me a flower, and flowers are beautiful. I am beautiful because I've met the King and He's made me new. But when I'm in the garden looking at the beautiful flowers, my beauty is more than skin deep. It goes through the bones. The perfume of life comes from my very marrow. Beauty is not superficial. I get it from God not me. My beauty will be evident for all to see.

The Lord gives us the gift of the body, but his real gift is our relationship. Every day we face the problem of sin. In my case, the biggest sin is lust. I can get so frustrated trying to win the war against lust. I want to win the war on my own. But I can't. That's why I asked the Lord to come to my heart. My first year in the hospital was an exercise in giving up control.

When I came out of the hospital, I had a job. I had a calling. My calling is to go where God takes me, to see people whom God has called to be my friends, and to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. He calls us as he calls the birds and the flowers. We know that we aren't going to have time to pick the flowers or to sing and sway like a daisy in the wind. But if we are faithful, we will be there for the good and bad times.
