Does Google One VPN work on PC?

I have done some research and can not find any conclusive answer.

This site claims that it works on PC (). In other sites, it says that it does not work. Is this true? If so, is there a workaround?

Thanks for any help! EDIT: I need the Google One VPN to run on a laptop. It's not for home use, but for school/work. A lot of times my school has the wifi blocked and I can't access my gmail account.

If there is no definitive answer please respond with a comment so I can accept your response. My first impression when I visited that website was that it doesn't. That site itself didn't have a valid SSL certificate (the only place I found it at Google) - perhaps that is why Google One VPN was not working. If it would work on a PC, I'm sure that it would be working correctly too.

Google One VPN is not an Android app, it's a web browser extension you need to use within an already existing Chrome browser instance. The article isn't entirely clear about this point, but it is pretty clear that they don't support Chromebooks or computers with different operating systems - you need the same Chrome setup on your laptop or whatever computer you want to install Google One VPN on.

So from your experience, Google One VPN will not work with ChromeOS? Or if it does, there are some special instructions for setting it up? And do you know of any web browser extensions that would work on any OS and also protect privacy, without using VPN? It depends on the Chromebook version you are using. The one I used had the VPN option built into the top bar of the browser and not in a separate extension, so it does not work for the latest versions of ChromeOS. If you are using a older version, then it should be fine.

I tried on a different Chromebook a few months ago and it was working perfectly, but I'm not sure whether it's working now because I've had a couple of months to try it out.

Why is my VPN not connecting to my network?

My VPN is not connecting to my network.

I am on a private network. I am using a VPS (Virtual Private Server) provided by Linode, and I have an IP assigned. The vpn is on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I have configured the VPN as described in the documentation:
Network Manager Preferences > VPN > Add > General > Protocol = "OpenVPN". Network Manager Preferences > VPN > Auth > User/Password = "login:password". Network Manager Preferences > VPN > Advanced > Network > Mode = "Manual". I also did. Service network-manager restart. I can access the VPN from another computer on the same network. When I attempt to connect to the VPN, I get the following message in the console: Jan 28 10:29:45 my.hostname': Error starting VPN plugin: No such file or directory I have verified that the path to openvpn in /etc/init.d exists. I have also verified that there are no firewall rules which would block it. I have also verified that the vpn config is correct (see above). I also tried changing the user/pass to "login:password", "login:login" and "login:loginsu" and none of them worked.

I have rebooted several times to no avail. I'm running out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was finally able to get this to work. The key was to remove the "mode=manual" from the Network Manager. Once that was done, the connection worked fine.

Why won't Google VPN connect?

I'm trying to access the Google VPN at the top of the page.

What's up with Google VPN? Google made a ton of changes over the last year to what they call the Google VPN. They changed how they connect your computer to their network, as well as how they handle the data that is sent through their network (the IP address, etc). Because of these changes, many people who used Google's VPN are unable to connect anymore.

Even if you can connect to the network, you may have to change settings in the router to connect your computer to Google's network instead of your home/office network (which is what the VPN is designed to do). Or you may even have to change your DNS settings (which is what they do to handle the IP and DNS addresses that are going out of your computer).

I used to use the Google VPN all the time, and it worked great. The only time it didn't work was when I got a new computer and moved my old one onto the same network.

How can I fix it? First, you'll need to make sure that you have a good Internet connection. If you are on a crappy connection, you might not be able to get a stable IP address from your ISP. Your ISP will assign you an IP address, and the Google VPN is designed to handle all of the IPs (think of it like an old dialup modem), so if your IP address changes (for whatever reason) you'll lose your connection.

If you're unable to get an IP address from your ISP (and you are using a router with DHCP, that means it's automatically assigning IP addresses to you), then you'll need to set up a manual DHCP address. You'll need to edit your router's settings to have it assign an IP address to your computer that has a private IP address from your router (this is called a Dynamic Private IP Address).
