Is Camille a biblical name?

Camille, the French feminine form of the name Camillus (Latin for the warrior), is a Christian and Roman Catholic name. What does Camilla mean in the Bible?

Here's a quick and slightly out of the way question to answer.

The name Camilla is of Germanic origin and means woman with crescent moon, which may or may not be correct (or I missed something, as seems to be more often the case).

A quick note before we get into the whole issue: It appears that Camilla is a very common name in France. I don't know if it is the same in Canada, however, I haven't looked it up.

The main point here is that it seems like she is a fairly obscure figure, at least by Biblical standards. That means that her use in the Bible isn't that significant and we don't have to treat her in such high regards.

It's still interesting to see how much attention she gets. The first use of the name in the New Testament is when she gets mentioned in association with Jesus: Now on the next day when they brought him back, they were assembled, and set forth a commandment of the chief priests and elders of the people, saying, We commanded you to abstain from doing any evil, and from calling anyone your brother, if you wish to remain under our order. For all the people knew him, for were all with him when the day of the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was celebrated. And lifting up his voice he addressed them,

Whosoever will come after me let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for my sake, the same shall find it.

Luke 9:18-27. Luke is talking about Jesus, obviously, and there are more references in Acts. From there, however, it seems like there aren't that many more occurrences of the name Camilla.

Camilla may have been used as a name for boys as well (this doesn't count the use of the name Cammabia as a proper name in Romans).
