What is the best channel to get on Roku?

I have a Roku 3 and a Roku Premiere.

If I connect to my cable I can access all the channels. This includes Netflix and Amazon. I have read that you can access free channels on Roku, but is there a way to find the channels? I am really confused on what to do next.

As far as I know, you will only have access to the free channels if you are already signed up for those services with your cable provider. With Amazon, you can make a free trial of the service.99 per month for Netflix, or watching it through Amazon.

I just got mine, haven't had a chance to use it. I'm not sure how everything works so I've taken the plunge, now that I know there's a Roku Channel Store, or a better way of saying that, the best app is Roku's Channel Store.

The guide to install apps I referenced was mostly written for Macs and laptops, but should be applicable to most/all smart devices. Download and install app named "Amazon Prime Video." To download, visit select "Roku" under "Add-ons" then scroll down and choose "Amazon Prime Video." This should be free.

Using the "Add Channel" function, add the "Roku Channel Store" as one of the apps to be installed. The channel store is a virtual Roku server that stores all the channels, including the free channels. You can download it here:

After the app has been downloaded and installed, you can now go to the app store and search for "Roku Channel Store." Choose it and you'll be presented with all the free channels for Roku. I've listed the current channels below, I didn't take the time to verify the validity, but hopefully this is the list of free channels currently available for Roku.

Note, however, that if you want to install a channel outside of the free channels, you can still use the online app store, but any channel you try to install will require payment.

I know there's a channel list on Android TV. Is there a channel list for Roku? I'd like to get it from the beginning so I don't have to learn channels again. Is there a list somewhere?
I don't think there is a complete channel list for Roku, but there are many lists out there. There is one here: and then the main Roku site: So we're on the same page. I was able to find a lot of channels I use and enjoy, but I didn't find a list for the new Roku apps. I do like the channel list for Android TV because the Roku app takes some doing to set up. I think it may be too late for that though.

I just set up my roku yesterday. So far I haven't really been on it. I've just been using Netflix and Amazon video. I had it on at night and sometimes during the day while I was at work. So it hasn't been my primary entertainment center yet. But it does have a lot of really good channels.

The Roku is nice and easy to set up and configure but it's not very big on functionality. I've found it much easier to use the Chromecast for that. It has a lot of content and seems to have a bigger library of content than the Roku. The Roku seems better for streaming movies.

If you're not all that tech savvy, it is. For me, I'm not in the slightest bit technical but my husband gets really confused when he watches a show on his phone (Android or IOS) and then when he gets back to the Roku, it's a different episode.

What are the top shows on Roku?

I've got 8 Roku's and I've got a Roku HD. I'm not interested in adding more. The top shows I'm currently getting are:
The Office. Dexter. Misfits. Breaking Bad. House. Community. Arrested Development. I'd like to add more. Game of Thrones. Battlestar Galactica. Pushing Daisies. Grimm. Any advice? (Especially the missing shows!). The Office has probably been on at some point but you have to go through Netflix (and yes it does take up your whole HD), but as far as I know you have to do this to get it. Battlestar Galactica is on my Roku.it hasn't been on the main screen yet.it may be on later.

I'm pretty sure you do need to go through Netflix to get The Office, Dexter, Game of Thrones, Misfits, Arrested Development, Battlestar Galactica, Breaking Bad and House. (as well as others.)

(and yes, it takes up the whole HD, which can be a problem if you already have the Roku set up, but it's the cheapest way to go, unless you're really into the series.
