Why can't I open links from my messages?
I have used this device for years and it has always worked flawlessly.
I can send text messages and receive them on my phone without problem. The past few days however, I am unable to open the links in the received messages on my phone.
The message is just a text message with the URL of the site in it. It opens fine in my browser, but when I open it in my Messages app it shows a blank white page. I have tried turning off my firewall and antivirus, restarting my phone, and clearing my cache. Nothing is working. I have a Nokia Lumia 930. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Can't open links from my messages. @KlutzyKiller (in reply to your question): No, unfortunately. However, I am able to open and reply to text messages sent to my phone. Just not the links from the messages.
I have been reading through this forum, and it seems like a lot of people have been having issues with their phones opening links to messages. I just wonder if there is something wrong with my phone that I am missing or doing incorrectly. I am able to open messages from other apps just fine.
My phone is not the problem. It works just fine on my friends phone and his phone. It's my own phone that has the problem. I have tried resetting my phone to factory settings and nothing. I am using an unlocked phone with Windows Phone 8.1 and it has the latest updates. I am using a Microsoft account so that could also be the problem. I don't know what else to try. I have turned off my firewall, antivirus and restarted my phone several times.
If you look in Settings > Apps & features > Phone update, are there any updates available? What about Settings > Apps & features > All apps and make sure you're not in the "Show updates" column. Also, if you go to Settings > More, under Apps & features, under Text Messages, are you seeing a "Message apps" column? If so, make sure it's set to "Automatically check for updates". If you're still not seeing updates, it sounds like you've hit upon a scenario where the OS update service doesn't work.
Why can't I open any links on my Android phone?
My friends and I are having issues opening links on our phones via browser.
This is happening with Chrome and with my Sony Xperia X10, it's happening even with Dolphin. When we try to open the link it says that we need a browser, then opens up the browser, and then it says that the browser doesn't exist.
Why is this happening and what do we need to do to fix this? 2 Answers.
You need to enable the "Open external browser" option in Settings > Apps > Browser and Webapps. From there you can tell apps which will open which types of URL (like browser, email, video player, etc). This is useful because if one app opens too many websites (as is often the case for me), I don't want to see everything, but just the ones I use.
Why am I not receiving text messages on Android?
If you try to receive SMS messages on your phone from someone who uses a computer or mobile phone (Windows, Android etc.) then you won't get them because the computer and smartphone use completely different protocols. If you get a message from someone who isn't using a computer or smartphone then you know the protocol in use and can configure to work with it. In the rest of the article I will assume you want to read text messages on your phone from a laptop or Windows computer.
This guide assumes that you have a SIM card installed, if you do not please follow these instructions. It can also be used on a WiFi network, but it's not recommended.
Step 1: Install SIM Card Settings. On your computer, open your device manager by searching for Device Manager. If you are using a Windows computer, this can usually be found under Control Panel and on older computers from Windows XP it's on Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Once Device Manager is open, find the SIM card you want to enable and under Properties right-click Properties, select Details and enable SIM settings (figure 1). If you don't see any SIM card you will need to reboot your PC to allow the new settings to take effect. If you still can't find your SIM card in Device Manager you may need to re-install it.
On the right side of Device Manager you should find a listing of hardware devices connected to the computer. There should be a SIM card listed at the bottom. If you don't see it there, you can go to Control Panel and type the "Device Manager" in the search field and click "Search" to start looking through the list of devices.
Figure 2. This tells us we have a SIM card installed and it's installed as a HSDPA connection and that it's configured to receive phone calls.
Figure 3. This is going to be confusing for some readers. What does the IP Address 192.168.8 and the phone number 91013 have to do with one another? We'll get to that later.
Step 2: Start an Emulator (a Software Simulator). We're now going to try to receive an SMS message using the settings that were obtained above.
