I would like to have the following: Connect to a web streaming service.

Get a list of what is available to watch on that service. Optionally, get some stats for how many people are actually watching. Have some sort of control, perhaps play/pause, etc. And be able to skip forward or back for a live channel Is there a platform-agnostic way to do this? And if not what is the least complicated platform? Thanks. Google Chrome and Amazon Silk (Chrome's plugin) would probably be the easiest paths, but all Chromium-based browsers should work. With the Silk plugin you get automatic detection of what channel you're on; you can even specify that all of them (eg, "all free channels") that it should be on. You can watch the currently loaded channel with the right arrow button (top right in the image below), which lets you jump one step at a time as shown in the example.

As for getting the "live channel" you'd need to have a server run on your machine, on a non-critical computer (like an old laptop or something). It would send out updates on what's actually playing to the user's browser so they could know what to stream as soon as it becomes available. I don't think any of the streaming services support this with their own interface; I think they depend on the content being pushed from the web server.

You may want to try using VLC Media Player. It does not have the functionality required for accessing live video streaming though and also there is no app available. Although VLC player does not have many functions to interact with live streaming but it does serve your purpose as long as you don't need to interact very often with the player. So you can do this easily with VLC.
