What is my server region?

Is it: USA or Canada.

China or Japan. India or India. Also is the server region the part after the dot? I have read some posts saying that the . Is for "geographically determined location." What does that mean? Does that mean that it can be anything but if I run an app on my local windows machine it will be the USA and Canada region? Or am I confusing that with a user's region in which they live. If so is there a way to find out? I ask because sometimes I have installed my apps using this method.
