Does Norton Utilities Ultimate speed up a computer?
I'm about to buy a new computer and can't decide between one of the 2-core Core i3 processors (that are cheaper) or one of the 8-core desktop processors (that are also cheaper). The problem is that my previous computer was very slow due to Norton Utilities Ultimate. I don't want to run out of space on the computer, so I am thinking about buying this (although it's not that important): Norton Utilities Ultimate 16.0.3071(5.988)
No! If anything it's slowing down the performance of the computer because it checks for updates, runs the programs you've got setup to do that, and so on and so forth. That's why you can't just install it on any computer. It has to be running on the same edition of Windows or it will find errors that don't exist and then will do something else that slows down the computer (uninstalling or changing something other than Norton Utilities might do this - but most won't).
Which is better, Norton Utilities or CCleaner?
Hi All.
A friend of mine was recently complaining about his PC being quite slow. I suggested a cleaner and asked which I should download. He said Norton, so I checked their site and clicked on "Norton Utilities". When I opened it up I realised that it was a trial version with a 10 day trial period, but it said they had a paid version also. So I googled CCleaner and on their website it says "CCleaner is freeware, no registration or payment required."
So, I'm really confused which I should download. Please could someone let me know which one is better and why? Thank you.
Re: ? Thank you for your answer. As I posted above, I think that the difference between the trial versions is that when you've finished using the trial version, if you have any problems, then you are forced into buying the full version. If you don't have any problems, you can get it to go away, and then you can uninstall it.
When I open the Norton program, I see that it has been installed on my PC. However, when I open CCleaner, there's nothing about it that tells me that it has been installed. Also, according to this website, it's a free program and no registration is required. Thanks again. Just before I came here, I downloaded Norton Cleaner. When I opened it up, I had to buy it because it said: "Unable to run". So I did, and when I installed it, I clicked the "Scan For Problems" button. Then it went through my whole hard drive and found about 100 things to clean up, but I'm not sure which ones. One of them said: "Windows Resource Tracker" so I guess it will work for Windows XP.
Anyway, I came here for help before I decide which to use. I tried CCleaner again after it found the files and it said: "There are errors in the registry". It's running now. If it works, I will use it and if it doesn't I will use CCleaner.
