If you don't think it's worth it, then there's no harm in trying it out for one month first, just to find out whether you'd be willing to pay that.

I had to install it myself anyway - it was part of one of the trial offers, I think - because the download page said that you could get a 14 day free trial (you need to read the license file and accept it or it won't work), but then said that you also needed to be registered for their email service and then say that you didn't wish to use it. So I installed the trial version, and then I got an email that said that the free trial was finished, so I had to choose either the free/30-day or subscription/12-months. The page didn't give any other options.

If I were being completely honest, the trial was a little awkward - at one point it suggested to press a key to continue, as it says "you will be presented with choices." But when I went back, I just had the two options again - so that meant I hadn't even gotten the choice to agree to the license when I closed the box. But that's a minor point, it was a free trial - I'm sure it's all working correctly. And the free trial was a good excuse for me to see what all the fuss was about.

All I know is that my browser (Firefox, with Google Chrome coming afterwards) said "Unable to load security information".

What happened to GeoTrust?

I was the technical director of all GeoTrust security offerings, so my world pretty much revolved around GeoTrust.

That means I spoke with customers, attended conferences, wrote blogs, and answered customer emails. But most of my time with the company, I spent thinking about it and solving problems for the people who purchased our products. So, naturally, that was the part that had been lacking at our firm.

I started to see an opportunity to build a group that could take us to the next level as a security technology leader. This will be my focus in the future and beyond. So, with my passion, vision and strong leadership skills, I will drive the direction of GeoTrust, leading it into what I think will be its future.

I have a vision to leverage the GeoTrust brand to launch more products and services to provide for the needs of both users and corporate IT administrators. These offerings would include products designed to secure cloud computing infrastructure, Web Applications, mobile devices and more. As you may know, our main revenue is generated from two major products - one protecting Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) Web servers and the other protecting Exchange and Office documents. Together these two solutions represented over 60 percent of our revenue and business growth.

While we are a very exciting group and we know we have a lot to offer, we are a relatively small group and need the support of our partners and other large corporations to help us accomplish all this. And we need that support sooner rather than later! So, what makes me think that GeoTrust should continue to prosper? I honestly believe we are positioned for continued growth if only we can grow through organic channels, while also developing the products and services we have been talking about here for some time. I've worked closely with Steve and Scott to build and maintain a great team. Our group is dedicated and very excited about the future.

I'll let others tell you about what the people here say, because my goal is clear to take GeoTrust to the next level by building a larger team and offering many new products and services. I would like some feedback on my question.

In terms of the reputation of GeoTrust and whether it is real or a scam. I don't mean to put anyone down but from where I stand it seems shady.

I will start off by saying I've been reading up on the Internet about this company. I do plan on ordering an SSL Cert for my site but I figured I would read around first and see what my experience with the company was. So I started to see that in terms of SSL Certs, GeoTrust seems to be the go to place. They have the green light out there and I thought I would get some insight into how legit GeoTrust is before I spend a bunch of money and end up disappointed.
