These are some of the most frequently asked questions I receive. So, I decided to write an article on this topic and clear the air once and for all.

TL;DR. Are Toptal's fees reasonable? What is their reputation as a scam? Does Toptal really make more than 35% of its employees rich? Does Toptal have an exit plan for you? I did not think that this question was necessary to ask, but I guess there are some people out there who haven't heard about Toptal. Their clients come from all over the world.

According to their pricing model, they do not charge anything if you want to start a new project. But once you get beyond the first three months of their services, they start charging a monthly fee.

The reason why I am mentioning their pricing model is because I have received quite a few questions about their fees. So, is it worth joining Toptal? If you are wondering whether it is worth joining Toptal, the answer is yes. The number of projects you can take part in depends on how much time you have available and your project's scope. But if you are someone who likes to work on different projects at the same time and at different levels of complexity, Toptal will work great for you.

How much can you make on Toptal?

We've got a bunch of different levels of subscriptions for you.

The pricing structure that we have is very simple. We are basically making two things on the business: Getting talented developers. Giving talented developers money.

You can join at any point in time, whether it's a short-term contract or a long-term subscription. We offer a lot of flexibility so that people are not locked in. For the people that join us, we have a very simple salary that is decided on a per month basis. We are not offering anything extra for our members. We are just offering you to be part of a company where there's a lot of freedom and opportunities and where everyone is working hard.

How many developers are working for Toptal? We have over a thousand top developers working with us. In the end, it's your choice if you want to work with us or not. It's not a requirement. It's not a prerequisite. It's a bonus. It's something that you can either choose or not to choose.

What is the difference between a contract developer and a subscription developer? A contract developer would pay us for every hour they work with us, and that will be their salary. So that's how it works.

As opposed to a subscription developer, where they pay us a fixed amount of money per month and we guarantee that they will work with us for at least one month. But, ultimately, they're on their own. They decide what hours they want to work.

If they work fewer hours, they'll make less money. If they work more hours, they'll make more money. It's up to them.

What if someone joins Toptal and does not start working? We allow people to join us at any time, and we are not a strict, Hey, you're going to work with us for a month. So that means that if someone decides they're going to be our customer for six months or a year, that's fine. We do not set that as a requirement.

You don't have to work with us. You're not locked in.
