What state does not require a massage license?
Massage is only regulated in 29 states and the District of Columbia.
In many states, a license to practice massage is not required by law and anyone can legally perform or offer to perform massages. Some states have regulations for regulating where and how massage may be practiced; this is covered in detail later in this document.
How are massage licenses granted? There are two ways to receive a massage license. You may either be licensed by a state agency or by an independent organization. The process varies slightly by state but generally requires that you pay fees, submit to a background check, get fingerprinted, and take a written exam. Then you receive a letter stating whether you were approved or denied. In some states the licensing organization can revoke your license for certain offenses, including failure to submit to a background check or failure to pay fees. For more information, see Massage Licensing.
What are some of the requirements for being licensed in some states? Many states have requirements for massage licensure that are specific to massage; this is covered in detail in Massage Licensing. States often specify requirements in the following categories: Education. The number of continuing education units you must complete annually.
Practice guidelines. How massage must be performed, such as how to apply a method to a body part or how to treat clients with medical conditions.
Background check. All states require that a background check be done. The specific check requirements vary widely, from no background check to check of criminal history, driving record, sexual-predator history, or substance abuse history. Most states also require that a credit check be done.
Continuing education. If you want to renew your license in some states, you must take continuing education classes.
Fingerprinting. Massage organizations usually require fingerprinting to verify your identity. Some states require this to happen within 30 days of applying for the license. Some states require fingerprinting when you first apply for the license or in the month before your license expires. Fingerprinting is usually a simple process, taking a few minutes and sometimes involving a blood test. However, if you have a history of heart problems or any health issues or use a lot of drugs, you may be unable to get fingerprints taken, so check before you apply.
Written exams. Often massage schools require tests before students are allowed to start work as massage therapists.
Do you have to be licensed to do lymphatic massages?
No.
In fact, I don't even recommend anyone who hasn't been trained to do it on a regular basis. But, to start out, I would say to look for a holistic practitioner who has received some training in Lymphatic Massage. There is a school in Canada that offers it, Lymphatic Health Institute. It's more common for a Lymphatic Massage to be done at a spa than to learn it at a massage school.
You're going to want to look for someone who knows the difference between a lymphatic drainage massage and a regular massage. There is a certain point when the person becomes a practitioner who knows the difference between the two. Someone who doesn't know the difference may have done it many times. For example, I've had massages where the person did the work, while my therapist was working me with handstands, but it wasn't a Lymphatic Massage, it was another kind of massage. This is how often I need to do it, so I need a practitioner who can tell the difference. A massage therapist who has been trained to do a Lymphatic Massage would be the best. They can help you with the right balance, for the type of massage, you need. You could also hire a certified practitioner, or an associate, depending on how much you need, or how well you know therapist you're working with.
What are the benefits of a Lymphatic Massage? Lymphatic Massage is great for helping reduce the amount of inflammation, pain and other effects of lymphatic issues that come from long term sitting, which happens a lot in our modern world. All of these things are very uncomfortable and I know they can be painful. The good news is that lymphatic drainage massage can help reduce all of them. If you've had a recent illness, or have a problem that has made you feel less energetic or less active, it could because of lymphatic issues.
Lymphatic drainage massage, a massage that gets the lymphatic system moving by using a massage technique, can help move lymph nodes (which is what gets rid of toxins from organs) and help remove them from your body. It is the natural movement of lymph through the lymphatic system that leads to all of this.
Do you need a license to do gua sha?
Gua sha is one of those movements that you just don't understand if you don't do it.
It's also one of the most effective self-help exercises for stress, because of the connection it has to our meridians (energy pathways). The meridians are the invisible energy pathways in the body that we know and don't know. When we learn about them, we understand the mechanism behind the seemingly random things that happen to us, like when we fall off our bikes or get a toothache.
In the same way, meridians exist to help us move energy around our body. They can be thought of as the roads that all of our organs and other components of our body travel on. When you learn how to work with the meridians, you gain access to a whole new level of energy and wellness.
Here are 7 reasons why gua sha is a great addition to your self-healing arsenal. It has no set-up time. Gua sha doesn't require any fancy equipment to do. You only need yourself, your meridians and some sort of surface (such as a towel or mat).
It doesn't require a gym membership. Gua sha doesn't need a gym membership. You can do it anywhere at any time.
It's a free workout. There are no fancy gym membership fees. The best part is you can do it anywhere, any time.
It builds muscle. Gua sha is a dynamic workout, involving a lot of shoulder, arm, and wrist movements, along with the occasional knee and foot push-ups. It strengthens your immune system. Gua sha works the muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. It's not a workout that works out of shape.
It gets you to your ideal weight. When you're gua sha challenged, you feel it in your legs, chest, abs, and arms. The result is your body becomes stronger and tighter, and you eventually lose weight.
It helps you sleep better. You'll be surprised how much better you sleep when you learn to gua sha.
