Is Amsterdam in Holland or Germany?

I love Amsterdam, I always have, but recently I've been getting conflicting information about where to stay.

I've heard people say that there are actually two cities in Amsterdam. One in Holland and one in Germany. When I was a child, my family lived in Germany and we didn't have a passport. So, we never went back to visit.

We now live in the Netherlands and I want to take my son on a vacation. Should we stay in Amsterdam in Holland or stay in Amsterdam in Germany? I'm not sure what I'm asking, but what I do know is that there are hotels that can be found all over the world, but I don't want to find a place that isn't near a tourist area. Also, is it better to stay in a tourist area if I want to see the city of Amsterdam? Amsterdam has two cities: Amsterdam-Centrum and Amsterdam-Zuid. Each one has its own districts, museums, and canals.

For example, Amsterdam-Centrum has an abundance of museums and lots of restaurants. If you want a more authentic experience, then Amsterdam-Zuid will suit you better. Amsterdam-Zuid has fewer museums and lots of local shops and restaurants.

There is also the option to stay in the city of Amsterdam, which is the centre of the two cities, and it is still a very touristy city. If you choose to stay in Amsterdam-Centrum, you'll have to go through the hassle of dealing with Dutch public transportation. Amsterdam-Zuid is much easier to get around.

The train to Amsterdam-Zuid is only one stop away from Amsterdam-Centrum. The same goes for Amsterdam-Zuid.

Amsterdam-Centrum is a bit more touristy and you can also see the city from a boat, which is much better than walking around. It's best to ask your hotel to tell you which city they are located in. However, Amsterdam-Zuid has a lot more "local" shops and restaurants and it's closer to the water.

The Amsterdam South Station is connected to the city tram network. It is also connected to the metro at the Amsterdam South Railway Station. Traveling by Metro: The Amsterdam Metro is connected to the tram system. It is called the tramway or the metro. In Amsterdam, the tramway and the metro run under the center of the city.
