How much does LinkNYC cost?

Does LinkNYC have cameras?

Nope, we don't use them.

As a matter of fact, we've never even used the 'official' New York City surveillance system called LinkNYC.

LinkNYC was originally sold as an ad campaign, not a technology product. It was just a new marketing campaign that had LinkNYC branded boxes (like Google Fiber) that you would hook up to your Internet and telephone wires so that people could see what kind of connection they have (slow DSL, 5Mb, etc. This was done by a small firm called Newscorp.

It was really just a marketing scheme. Later on, LinkNYC came out with the boxes and decided to go ahead and use them for their own purposes. For example, if I was to go to link.nyc/linkNYC and I had it installed in my NYC apartment, I would be able to see where in my apartment I have reception issues.

So, I am actually able to monitor my reception inside my NYC apartment by checking this website. Now, let me digress a bit about LinkNYC and how I came to know about it. One day, a few months ago, I went to my local CVS to get some shampoo and toothpaste and noticed that I had a LinkNYC box with a sticker on the side of it. Now, my first reaction was "oh, that's interesting". So I took a look at the sticker and started reading about it. Since it's a marketing scheme, the idea behind LinkNYC is to try to reduce crime and other things. The idea is that by placing these boxes everywhere in the city, then we will be able to know what people are doing and what people are doing wrong. I read that these boxes were placed in high crime areas.

Well, as I looked into the idea further, I realized that it's not going to work very well. There is nothing stopping someone from placing LinkNYC boxes all over the city and then running an Internet cable through them. I figured that it would best to keep it to myself.

However, if you want to keep a secret, then you need to have a secret safe house and then use the phone system.

How much does it cost to participate in the New York City LinkNYC?

How much will your monthly fee be for receiving messages via text, email or phone? New York City LinkNYC is a citywide network of Wi-Fi kiosks and public charging stations that connect residents, tourists, delivery drivers and riders to the web at low-cost, and in some cases free. Is it safe to use LinkNYC?

I was going to ask something similar but it looks like it has been answered already.

If you haven't seen this you should watch the video. There are still lots of new stations being installed and they are doing a lot of preparation. They have all sorts of safety systems in place. All of these things are necessary for what they are planning. The video mentions a few of them, the sensors on the street lamps that track every car that is passing and the video cameras in the kiosks and the emergency phone booths.

They also mentioned that they had some of the kiosks built in areas where they did not expect the crowds, including the park at Rockefeller Center which was not expected to be so busy. This was done so that if a problem arose they would not have to move the kiosks from their original site to somewhere else. Their original plan had them in more of the lower east side.

The NYCLU wrote about this project last week. There are a lot of details that I don't understand but I do agree that there needs to be a lot more planning and coordination before the kiosks start getting installed. I don't know how much these people know about how to protect themselves when faced with crowding or an emergency.

As much as I am concerned about what may happen at rush hour, I will not be riding it when it does happen. So I won't be out when it happens either. As for rush hour, I think that it is just too risky. At the same time though, I do see a need for safety during rush hour and what better way to do that then to have someone on hand that can provide backup. It is a difficult situation to find a middle ground between having someone standing by every day and doing nothing about it.

NEW YORK New York will soon have a new Central Park on its West Side. This new park will offer the residents and visitors of the Big Apple high-end shopping, dining and sightseeing all under one roof and with breathtaking views of the Hudson River and the Statue of Liberty.

The park will also offer something more than its older brother in Manhattan. Its design is in the vein of The High Line, a popular piece of public art in New York City that has become known for its stunning views and unique design.

The High Line, an elevated freight railway built in the 1930s along a former rail bed, has transformed into a public park on the Lower East Side. It was originally used to connect residential buildings to the elevated IRT subway line, but now it boasts a series of restaurants, museums and art galleries. A portion of the trail can be accessed directly from the West Village neighborhood or through a passageway from Fifth Avenue. The trail itself is an amazing landscape created by cutting the old rail bed down to a narrow pathway.

The designers behind the upcoming Central Park West Yards redevelopment have taken inspiration from the High Line. The developers envision creating a park, like the High Line, that is walkable, affordable, fun, urban and green. They hope this new piece of open space, with lush vegetation, large trees and dramatic views, will give those residing near the Hudson a place to play, exercise and recreate outdoors, even if it is a short jaunt to the subway. This new park will feature a number of attractions, restaurants and public spaces that will benefit residents, visitors and businesses in the area.

If the developers can get away with building a high-end neighborhood without any new streets, they hope to use public funds and space on their own privately owned property to do the same thing for the West Side. On Tuesday, June 9, the city released a draft environmental impact statement that details how the community is likely to look and feel after the park, the proposed community garden and several housing and retail complexes are complete.
