Will Minecraft: Story Mode ever have a Season 3?
- MineZComic
The news of Minecraft: Story Mode being discontinued makes no sense to me whatsoever.
A few days ago Notch stated that he would still probably make an MC Story Mode update every six months because his personal life got in the way of other content. Well that has gone up as we now know by the fact that Mojang discontinued the program because they found there isn't enough funding to continue doing so as their goal was. That didn't stop him from speaking in front of a crowd of fans where he stated that he would still be making updates to Story Mode because it will get even bigger than it was before and people will enjoy it anyway (Notch - MCSP).
Well what Notch is ignoring is that if the money stops flowing, it will end which means nobody is working for Mojang at the moment and they might not have anything to work on. In the MCSC forum we've been discussing whether Minecraft Story Mode ever gets a Season 3 since Notch started taking care of it. If no money comes in from this, will Minecraft Story Mode die? We also discuss what we could see if one season ends up coming (Notch - MCSP).
This is a very sad day for fans of both Story Mode and Notch as both have done really well and kept in good shape. There is no way that Notch could make such a massive announcement as to stop development just because of personal issues. The only way to put an end to MCSP is to pull out the plug. If it does get shut down, who knows what kind of game we will end up with?
The MC SC Community team discussed on the subreddit as to whether or not they will shut down Minecraft Story Mode if it stops getting updates (MCSC). So what is happening Minecraft Story Mode? It looks like something is coming out, but nobody knows exactly what it is. All I know is that Notch has promised the world that Story Mode will keep getting updates.
Why was Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 Cancelled?
For a while, there were two main theories as to why Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 was cancelled.
One of these stories, told by fans via social media, suggested that Disney pulled the plug because they didn't want the story line to be too political. This meant the show was essentially banned from Disney because, if it had gone ahead, it could have led to Disney making a lot of money by making people think about whether Disney was politically correct.
In fact, during a live stream, when asked directly by a fan why Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 was cancelled, Josh Gilbert from Telltale answered: Do I think we'd get pulled for this season? Yes, but the reason we can't say is because Disney has made a statement that it has an incredibly rich IP, and what those things do for us, our sales. So we want to protect our company, and we want to protect them. We don't want Disney to shut us down.
Josh Gilbert, Co-Creative Director, Telltale Games. Is That True? Of course Disney is still in business, doesn't seem to have many financial problems and isn't facing a potential bankruptcy. It is also quite likely that EA have their own reasons for wanting Telltale to focus on certain games rather than developing a spin-off (or two or three) of Minecraft Story Mode.
Is Telltale Scared Of Politics? However, there seems to be one particular area which caused concern for Telltale. And that was Disney. And more specifically, Disney's political stance. In the UK for example, there is a major debate about whether children should learn about British history at schools. And in the EU, there are arguments as to whether teachers should bring 'alternative' history books into schools.
How many endings are in Minecraft Story Mode Season 2?
The answer is seven endings.
But to actually see the ending you don't need to finish the game. The first ending (the "real" ending) is only available after successfully completing all of the other endings, so in addition to 7 real endings there are also a lot of fake endings that you can unlock even if you haven't finished the entire story. There's a full list of fake endings here.
Do the game's multiple endings take place in different locales? There are several scenes in the story that show you where the various endings take place. For example the "real" ending of episode 1 takes place on Pandora which is an island near the sun in the center of space. It's the first time you get to visit this strange world! If you look carefully at certain scenes you will find out exactly where the particular ending takes place.
Episode 6: The Real Ending. The main part of this episode is about building the Great Sand Sea, the structure that was once the surface of the ground. To build the Great Sand Sea, you'll have to break rocks and dig tunnels, and it'll be easy for you if you work with the NPC Smith. You can use his tools, and every Smith has a special tool. To break stones you can do this:
Click on a broken stone and press Ctrl while hitting the B button. In the meantime you have to use the mining tools - pickaxe (press B), shovel (press X), axe (press A). There are 3 ways to upgrade the mining tools. The first is when the material is being mined. The second is as you make gold. The third is via Smith's upgrades. The process is repeated. When the Great Sand Sea is finished, it's time to leave Earth and head to the first episode's ending.
When you go to exit the sandbox you'll automatically teleport yourself to the beginning of the world, which means this is the only ending you can reach without having completed the entire story. This is how you see the ending to Episode 6. If you want to see the end, you'll have to save before you go in-game and re-enter the sandbox to play again. Don't give up hope yet, though, because in the next episode you will reach the final scene that has no ending for it. So, the real ending comes in Episode 7 which is not too far after episode 6.
