In an office, the IT administrators will need access to all users' shared folders.

The way this is achieved is using Group Policy with GPO.

My permissions are the same as my login name, I have no idea why I can't access that folder. Is there anyway I can give myself those permissions? Can you explain what you mean by login name? Do you mean the username on the machine that's accessing the folder? I think you mean the account name you want to change permissions to. If you log in to the computer as the current account, are you still trying to give permissions to the current account? What is the name of the account you're trying to change permissions on? I've also found that when I log into a PC, it will ask me if I want to change the permissions. For example, if I go to C: and click on C:, it will ask me if I want to change permissions, so I'll say "Yes" and it will change my permissions to everyone on that folder.

Hi All, I have a script that runs on a Windows Server 2025 that creates a folder and then adds some files to it.

The script runs fine locally, but when I run it on the server, the following error is returned: "Access to the path is denied." The server's hard drive is full and I have tried shrinking it to make space for this script to work. Any ideas? Also, the IIS User does not have permissions to read or write to the folder. I added the user to the folder's owner group, but when the script runs, the folder still gives the "denied access to directory" error.

Re: ? Hi, you are probably running into a windows permission issue, so you may need to enable the folder's ACL. You can do this using powershell or diskpermissions.exe on windows xp or later systems. For some reason, I'm not seeing the link to a windows 7 version of diskpermissions.exe in the article.

Thanks for all of your help! I am now able to run the script remotely, but the error persists when I attempt to delete the contents of the folder. I have also tried running a batch file as admin and it still fails to remove the contents. Anyone else have any ideas?

We did some more research and it appears that the script's user was configured as having permissions only to "Read" the folder. This means that even if he has permissions to create a folder, the script will be unable to access the contents of that folder. We are going to run the script as a different user and see what happens.

I don't think that your issue is specifically related to the script. I think your issue is related to your filesystem and/or NTFS permissions. Can you post some more details? Make sure to add details like the full name of the file system and/or the file system's properties (eg, volume label, drive letters, etc.). If you have the necessary permissions on the filesystem and its files, you should be able to check the properties of the files and directories.
