Why is my PIA VPN connecting and disconnecting?

Recently, I have begun experiencing problems with my PIA VPN.

When connected to a network (as I usually do), I often find that it disconnects for an unknown period of time. While not a problem when on wifi, when I am not connected (on public or private network), it will disconnect for several hours before I get an error telling me it can't connect and ask me if I want to try again. To fix this, I must exit out of all running programs and restart the computer, which makes me wonder if anyone else has experience of having similar issues.

I have no idea what's going on because nothing else happens except for it connecting and then disconnecting (while on a network that's very different than what PIA uses to detect its servers). The issue I have with PIA is that it randomly freezes after it's connected to a network that's known to be secure, such as a company network, which is why I use it exclusively in that case. However, every other issue with PIA is very vague; the VPN does not work or it freezes, which could be a symptom of everything and nothing. I would appreciate any advice anyone has in relation to this issue.

2 Responses. Hey, hope I can answer this! You are probably being charged for a service you aren't actually receiving and your PIA service is being shutdown. If you have PIA you know this.

Also I understand why the VPN connection stops and the way around it is by not using it when you aren't connected to PIA and use it normally when connected. But, my suggestion is to use another VPN service. Personally, I use a private VPN that we pay for from a reputable company but I use a free one that I also know a lot about. I am sure others have a lot of experience with this and can recommend good providers.

And if the PIA issue is causing this private VPN, you can use them both at the same time and avoid confusion. I will see if I can find the name of my provider! Thank you for sharing! Why is my PIA login not working?

I have a user called xxx on my Ubuntu 16.

04.3 server.

When I try to log in as this user, it asks me for a password and I enter the one that I used to create the user. The server does not accept the password.

I can log in as root with no problems. I have tried removing xxx from sudoers and added him again and the same result.

I have tried adding the line "xxx ALL=NOPASSWD" to /etc/sudoers and it did not change anything. My /etc/sshdconfig contains: PermitRootLogin yes. I can ssh to the machine and log in as root without a password. If you need any other information about the machine, please let me know. Thanks for your help. Solved.
