The standard view that a good argument for a priori methods is that they avoid circularity. So there is something right in Quine's first argument (which is probably best characterized as a "negative" argument). Quine writes:

As an example, suppose there were no objects that are not minds. And suppose it did happen that some body other than I could conceive of itself without conceiving of an external mind. We have already argued that this might be due to my own peculiar way of conceiving. Suppose, however, that my peculiar way of conceiving were as a matter of necessity such as it would be when I were the only possible object who would think himself into existence - all others being merely existent but non-thinking entities. Then in that kind of situation I could not think myself into existence because I should also have to think someone else into existence. If I could not do this, how would I go about thinking and thinking myself into existence? The result would be a circle, as I shall explain. (WP, p. 972; W, p. 11; see also the more extensive critique in Quine 1961)

Quine notes that his argument is not based on a direct statement of the impossibility of self-thinking since there seems to be no such statement. If there were no minds, then the objection would make no sense at all since no one would have to think his own thinking (of which he is an object). To say that his objection comes from a description of his peculiar way of conceiving sounds suspicious since it has obvious implications for its content.

It is doubtful that, if Quine is to believed, he accepts the second half of his argument. It seems rather that it's part of an implicit argument, one that may or may not have significant independent support. There is some evidence for Quine having this latter sort of idea. Consider the following observation by Dummett: "a 'metaphysical' reason for believing the a priori derives neither from a metaphysical reason for believing in the existence of a self, nor from a psychological reason for supposing it impossible for any other person to think one into being." (Dummett 1957) On Dummett's reading, Quine's argument assumes the first half of his argument (about the mind) for granted.

There are reasons for suspecting Quine has gone overboard.

Wild (2013). The first film from the award-winning filmmaker of Winter's Bone and the Beasts of the Southern Wild films sits at the top of the most viewed Netflix movies. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, this film is set on a remote island populated by nature-loving, free-spirited people whose lifestyles are at odds with the outside world's materialism. It also stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Kaya Scodelario, and Jeff Goldblum.

Blackfish (2009). Netflix has offered documentaries and non-fiction films like this one many times. Based on real events, this film portrays the story of Tilikum and his fellow orca who are captured and moved to a zoo for human amusement. It is narrated by the killer orcas with the help of interviews and footage shot in the past by the animal-rights activists featured in this film.

Beasts of No Nation (2015). An African film that premiered in Sundance film festival, this film takes a look at the African conflict in the past, present, and future from an African perspective. The film follows Agu, a member of a rebel group in an unnamed country, as he and another rebel are fighting for justice and freedom for the children of the country. It won an Oscar for best foreign film and best editing.

Beasts of No Nation: Critic Reactions. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and based on a New York Times article, the film was met with mixed reviews when it was released. The majority felt that it was too graphic and violent. Other critics liked it more than that.

What movies to watch on Netflix this week?

Let me tell you.

While some people have a Netflix queue for binge watching and others like to set their DVRs and watch when they get the chance, I'm one of the rare ones who gets stressed out by having too many options. I find myself looking at my Netflix queue every few weeks or months and trying to determine which of the movies I've already seen are worth re-watching, which are good enough to add to the queue, and which are just bad enough to delete from it.

Because I hate the feeling of having too many choices to make (especially when I'm already trying to figure out what I'm going to be doing during the day), I've created this post for you to read and hopefully share with me what movies you're planning on watching on Netflix this week. . Netflix releases a new movie every Friday. That is usually Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Every week, I go through my Netflix queue, determine what movies are worth adding to the queue and what movies need to be removed from it, then I add them all together to come up with my weekly Netflix movie guide. I take the top 10 movies from my list and list them below in no particular order.

I also add the movies that are released between the top 10 that I haven't seen yet. These are the movies that I'm watching this week. This week's Netflix movies. The Secret Life of Pets (R) - This family friendly movie is full of cute dogs and very funny jokes. There is a lot of cuteness and laughter in this movie. It's a great movie for the whole family to enjoy.

Saving Mr. Banks (PG) - This movie has become a favorite of mine over the past few years. I've watched it twice in the past few days. While it's a bit slow in some spots, it's still a good family movie that I recommend to everyone.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (PG-13) - This is a really fun superhero movie that I'm hoping will be as good as the first two Avengers movies were.
