Does NordVPN offer support for Google TV?

NordVPN does not offer specific support for Google TV. However, you can still use their service to gain access to over 7,500 servers worldwide. The process is pretty simple and takes just a few minutes.

First, make sure your ISP supports UDP routing (it should). If they do, it's possible to use a VPN to route through your own ISP. To do this, you need to download the .pcap file that Google provides, then open the .pcap file in Wireshark (I downloaded and loaded the file on my Windows PC but you can do it from anywhere).

Download and install NordVPN on your Chrome or Firefox browser, then run the program. Click the "Setup" tab on the top right of the screen and enter your NordVPN username and password. Click the "Setup VPN" button on the top left, then select the UDP protocol and click "Add Server". Type your public IP address into the box under "Server IP" (eg, 195.185.192.1). Then click "Next". When you're done, it should look something like this:

Open Wireshark again (select Filters -> Capture Filter to view the capture files) and select a .pcap file you made earlier (the one with your public IP address). Then press "Start capturing". While it's capturing, use a Google TV and click on Netflix (or whatever you want) and a few seconds later, click the "Open Settings" button and tap the TV-IP/Video/Playback icons. You should now see your IP address, with a bunch of streaming videos:

This worked for me last year, but now the same settings page doesn't work and there are no videos. I wonder if the servers were moved or if it was just my ISP blocking VPN.

How does a VPN work with a Chromecast? Google TV is essentially running on Chrome OS, and it includes built-in software support for PPTP (PPP over TCP/IP). Chromecasts can't do this type of networking without some sort of support, so installing a VPN on your Chromecast will allow the Chromecast to work with a VPN. You can turn on a VPN on a Chromecast through an Android device, laptop, or Chromecast setup wizard. In my tests, I was able to connect the Chromecast to a VPN running on the Raspberry Pi (the Chromecast is powered by an HDMI adapter cable connected to the Raspberry Pi).

Once you turn on the VPN on your Chromecast, you can then turn on a VPN on your Android device, laptop, or even a Chromecast that isn't already plugged in (but if you have multiple Chromecasts, they should all be connected). Then, you'll be able to access the Chromecast and any internet-enabled apps that are installed on the Chromecast, including PPTP VPN apps.
