Can you cook anything in Ooni pizza oven?

Is Ooni better with gas or wood?

Or does it matter?

I want to build a fire pit in my backyard. My neighbor has a gas line on the property so I can use his if I need it, but I'm not sure how to construct one out of wood. It's a circular pit about 10' in diameter and I want to build the sides at least 8 feet tall. Does this make sense? I just don't want to blow it up or damage the property.

What do you all think? I have the tools and ability to do it myself, so I want to do this properly. Thanks for your help.

Lewis I'd probably use some of those little prefab units with the metal legs, and then make something around that to fit the size of your pit. I'd make it 3-4' wide, 5' tall, maybe 6'. That way you can use a crane to move it in or out when you need it. I can't stand the sight of gas fired portable fire pits. No thanks.

Actually the prefab plastic type metal fire pits you can find at a box store or home depot are actually pretty cool because they come with the steel legs and support structure already in place. You just need to drill a hole and attach the legs to them.

Wood works fine. You can even put on a wood stove and heat the pit with that.

You should probably go with wood. Gas fires can be very dangerous if they are not regulated correctly. Not to mention that it's illegal in most states.

Does Ooni really cook pizza in 60 seconds?

He might, or might not be trying to be a little dramatic.

But at the same time, you have to see his point that pizza-to-go is just not the only way to be.

He does, after all, make pizza in one second on his new "fastest pizza." It's a high-tech machine developed by an Israeli company called Dandelion.

It makes pizzas the size of a car tire, which is cool. It also makes them in three to seven seconds. Which is amazing.

On Wednesday I met with Yair Ben-Yefet and Ooni to try out the machine, which looks more like the world's best barbecue smoker than it does like an actual oven. In the test kitchen we made two different pizzas, Ooni's regular pepperoni one and a California thin crust with mozzarella and garlic oregano.

Ben-Yefet and Ooni are former co-workers in Israel, where they launched their company. One of them got sick of waiting around for other people to decide what to order in a restaurant.

Yair and Ooni are also pals. He has taught her some cooking techniques, and she has been working with him in testing things in his kitchen.

"The idea was born over a cigarette," says Ben-Yefet, who says he got the idea from watching home cooks on television show him how long it took them to throw together a few pieces of pizza. As we watched, Ooni started taking the cheese off of some dough and covering it in marinara. "It doesn't mean I don't cook it," he explained. It seemed like he liked to be dramatic, even the day before when went out to dinner. And he was probably right.

At home I tried it out. Here's what happened when I put in some dough (they use dried dough for convenience), marinara, and slices of pepperoni and garlic-rubbed cheddar cheese on the top: When I put it in the oven, it started cooking immediately. After just a minute in the oven it was completely hot and ready to eat. (And you can check that it's done by pulling up on the edges, since all the steam has come out. You should see them start lifting.

5 inch pizza oven.

I'm just wondering if I can bake other foods besides pizza in it? Can I bake pizzas or anything else in it?

Thanks in advance! If the Ooni is the right size and you have a proper pizza stone, you can cook pizzas in it. The oven is also good for cooking stews, roasts, and breads. If you don't have a pizza stone, you could use a pan or a griddle. But you won't get the same crisp crust as on a pizza stone.

I've cooked steaks, chicken, and ribs in mine. You just need to preheat it, flip the steak and let it rest for about 5 minutes before you finish cooking it. The same goes for the chicken or ribs.

That's cool! I was hoping it would be able to do everything lol. I'm going to get a pizza stone tonight and I'll try that out. I'm going to be trying to make some bread, chicken, and beef stew, I'll let you know how it turns out Thanks! "The first time somebody called me a redneck, I thought it was a compliment." - George W.
