What is the best free firewall to download?

Does Comodo still have a free firewall?

I used to use Comodo but they stopped the free firewall because it wasn't making enough money. I never heard of them releasing a "lite" version of their product, so maybe they are just going to add in a firewall to their main product and call it free.

Re: Does Comodo still have a free firewall? I haven't seen Comodo free in years, but I don't think it was that long ago. That's when I got into Zone Alarm and McAfee. I can't remember if Comodo went back to having a free version or not, but I know a friend of mine who used to be really into Windows XP was telling me the other day that the latest Comodo free was Vista only.

Personally, I've started getting really paranoid about Internet security since my last post on here, and started using Zone Alarm for my desktop and PC Anywhere for my laptop. PC Anywhere uses Zone Alarm, but PC Anywhere is a very small company with lots of smaller packages like PC Anywhere Pro, PC Anywhere Lite and PC Anywhere Free, so each has a different set of features.

Thanks everybody. I guess Comodo dropped the free firewall and only offers a "lite" version with basic features. Maybe Zone Alarm Lite will include it in the future too. I will probably buy it because it does work on my windows 7 Ultimate edition. Although after I download this free version of Zone Alarm, I will probably install this Comodo firewall.

Comodo free firewall is the new version of the free version called Zone Alarm Lite. It is based off the same version as Zone Alarm Professional. And Comodo will most likely have the Lite version in some format. But with the new look and feel of it. I would also assume Comodo free is not free anymore.

Is Comodo Internet Security Premium free?

I have Comodo Internet Security (for the desktop version) preloaded on my laptop and it was free - I think? Does anyone know if they have that same version of Comodo Security Premium? I'm new to Comodo so didn't have any ideas on this one I'm really sorry but I don't know, but could you look into the forum for other discussions around that topic

Or another thread about that topic

Because i'm afraid that those are not related. Thank you for your help. Hablas Espaol

Hello, I'm new here and I'll be glad to help. I am sorry if this has been answered before, but I haven't found the answer. I'm currently running Comodo Internet Security 8 because I downloaded it while free. I don't want to pay anything until I know the software isn't something I might want to pay for. But with the newer release, it asks me to register. Since I have the older version and I think it's still free, should I use it? When I register with it, will I get the newer release with it as well? Thank you for any help you can give me.

I can tell you that when I first got Comodo it was free (I think it was a month trial before they made you pay), and I didn't pay for it. A friend of mine thought Comodo was too pricey for what it did, and she wanted to switch. I recommended that she use McAfee instead, so she signed up for a 3 year contract with McAfee (which I'm now subscribed to). Then one day they stopped her services for some reason (or perhaps she changed her computer name or DNS or something?) so they took back her McAfee account and locked her out of their website. She was then screwed, because without McAfee her PC was infected by a trojan, and she could no longer use it. So I advised her to get back on the Comodo site and download the security suite. I told her she could never trust McAfee again after getting locked out like that. She said she wouldn't go back to McAfee, so we bought Comodo from her as a gift.

So for you, if you haven't already, maybe you should go back to the Comodo site and download the security suite.

Is there a free version of Comodo?

Just wondering if their version is any better.

Originally posted by Rokusun I've got a Mac, so I went with ZoneAlarm. I have used Comodo for many years and was just trying to find out what other people were using. My first firewall was Zone Alarm.my PC has been running ZA without any problems on it since 1998. It has never failed me.even in very hostile environments where I would get strange packets I could always stop the packet and let me run the program or continue to work.

I will stick to ZA until I no longer have to use my PC. As a matter of fact, my ZA product came with my PC so as not to take up space and that was over 8 years ago when I got this PC and started putting it together (this is all true.)

This doesn't mean I will never have an alternative! It's good to know about alternatives so I am sure I can easily get a new product if I need one. Thanks for the input.

I haven't found anything as good as ZoneAlarm (at least in my limited experiences) but you could try using firewalls as a first line of defense. When I built my "first line of defense" it was as simple as turning off the switch and waiting until someone tried to get to my stuff (like the router). Of course there's a ton of different types of attacks. I was a bit paranoid about using Firewalls because I didn't want to accidentally lock myself out of my system so instead I took this "old" solution which would have seemed like a bad idea if I were doing it today but seems to be working pretty well for the past 8 years.

In all honesty, your own personal experience with firewalls may prove that they are good enough for your purpose. For myself I always have a "last line" firewalls to protect important/valuable computers but for others they may simply be enough and there would be little point to add another device.

I recently switched from my old "home" Antivirus to McAfee free version. I'm still getting used to all the new settings and I don't think it's done any damage to my system yet.

I have had several Windows systems where I've had problems with AV softwares.
