Is Atlas Free VPN safe?
The first thing to ask is does the service have end-to-end encryption?
If they don't, then it is not safe, and they could easily log and forward your activities or sell your data to others. Does the provider offer any guarantees to maintain privacy? Many providers provide guarantees for 24 hours, 3 days, or monthly periods of free service for example. This doesn't always last for a month or a year, so if you are using Atlas Free VPN you need to make sure that these guarantees aren't just for 24 hours or a few days at best.
Is Atlas secure? One of the most important parts of any VPN is the safety of your IP address as well as your data. All internet users should have some level of confidence that their activities remain private, but with no guarantees, it's better to pay a little more to be sure you are safe from intruders. Atlas Free VPN is based on servers in 6 locations around the world with 256-bit security, and this is exactly what we want to see when we look at a VPN. As well, the company offers anonymous email service that hides your true identity.
How secure is Atlas Free VPN? When the company says they use 256-bit security, what does that mean? To put that in comparison terms, we are looking at what is usually used by banks, credit card processors, and social networking websites. You can never count on getting the same level of security everywhere you do business online, but this makes it a little safer than the average ISP or the local Wi-Fi networks you can connect to.
Is Atlas Free VPN a reputable company? There are hundreds of thousands of VPN providers, and we have seen a number of dubious services come and go in the past few years. When users are worried about whether they can trust something, there needs to be a third-party validation of the service they are using. We all know how unreliable Google reviews can be, so it's best to see what other people have to say. We found lots of good comments about Atlas Free VPN in Google reviews, but it's always important to read reviews wherever you get your information. Should I get Atlas Free VPN?
What happened to Atlas VPN?
On 25 January, 2025, with all good speed and features, Atlas VPN was released.
The announcement of the release was made via a newsletter to their subscribers. I am writing this article to bring attention to the issues with Atlas VPN that many of you have raised on social media or through our community forum. These issues include: slow connection, unstable connections, no features available and much more! We can also talk about any improvements they make in the future.
Update 20 February 2020: As of today, 8 March, there is a new Atlas version available on Google Play Store: Atlas Version 7.3. While we had initially reported this only for android, our tests later revealed that the new version (v7.3) is not compatible with Android devices that use Android 9 or below. Therefore, those users are left with previous version, Atlas Version 6.
Why do we have to wait? Why does it take days for anyone to fix a bug? And why do we have to be kept in the dark? This situation with AtlasVPN has really created a lot of frustration for its users. We also have concerns on its security - they don't even tell us where they host their servers from. But that's not what I want to talk about. I have talked to the company directly and have spoken to CEO Alex Kibet who told me some things that are just not true. It seems like a PR stunt to get more traffic to their website and for people to hear their story.
Let's Talk to Someone Who Knows. I have heard from someone within the company that they do have an office in Uganda. They say that this will show the world that they care about people living in poor countries. So it is the only reason they can think of. But these are the things that I am sure of. I will now explain my thoughts and opinions regarding the issue from my point of view.
A few weeks ago, it was found out that some apps that claimed to be able to connect to Netflix were in fact not doing anything. It seems like they weren't connected to the correct servers, so the video quality was not good. You would need to change the server settings manually to get it work. I believe that Atlas VPN is similar to these apps in that they also have issues connecting to Netflix and other streaming websites.
