How do you care for a high fragrance camellia?

How do you care for a high fragrance camellia?

First, you must be a bit of a fanatic about the beautiful plant.

Then, as a general rule, there are two ways of caring for a camellia: water and mist.

Water. Most importantly, you need to check the soil at least once a week, even if you use a drip irrigation system. This is the best way to ensure that you are not drowning your plant. Your soil should have enough water to just moisten it slightly. If it is too dry, you will need to water it every other day. If it is too wet, your plant can become stunted and very unhealthy.

Watering your camellia should not be a full on soak. Just keep the top 6-8 inches of the soil moist and allow the excess to run off. As the potting soil dries out, you will be able to tell by the look of the leaves and stems. For example, they will start to crack and shrivel. In this case, you'll want to water more frequently.

Now that your plant has been properly watered, there are still other things you can do to make sure it is thriving. If you keep your camellia outdoors in the summer, you can protect it from harsh sunrays with an umbrella or grow tent. You can also use a light spray of water mist (as opposed to full on soaking) to keep your plants alive.

The Importance of Light. You should make sure your camellia has enough light. While it should have 6 hours of direct sunlight, you can provide additional light when you plant in the spring. A sunny area of your yard is a perfect spot. If you live in a more northern area, the sun will be lower in the sky in the winter. To remedy this, plant your camellia at the North or West end of your property.

When you purchase your camellia, you should also look for a plant that is mature. This way, you will know that the plant has already started to produce flowers. The best time to buy a mature camellia is spring, but you can also get them in the fall.

Misting. You may want to do water misting to increase the amount of flowering on your plant. Just make sure you are not over watering your plant!

When should I buy camellias?

Last weekend we planted some beautiful camellias in the garden.

I planted some bulbs too, but I haven't decided if I should transplant these into their own little pots. We were given some seeds to plant at Christmas so will they come up all right? I can't remember the variety - it might be 'Taurus Flush'?

The new shoots are poking through. It doesn't seem cold enough yet so I think we'll leave the pots outside. The plants get quite small with just a few leaves and it can be difficult to plant out if you're not sure if they're ready to go. They're definitely flowering now.

Should I grow my own camellias? They're very popular for gardeners who prefer to grow their own trees and have plenty of space for them to grow. There's no shortage of camellia cultivars in the garden centres so the choice is almost unlimited.

Camellia's are great plants for gardens because they're easy to look after, they don't need feeding, need little or no pruning and they last forever. They won't set seed until they're 40 years old and the flowers are enjoyed for their beauty even more than the fruit! What should I be looking out for when buying camellias? There are thousands of camellia cultivars available, so it's hard to find a standard list of what to look for. That said, many of the names on the market have become somewhat generic and this can make it difficult to match a range with the right flower or colour.

The best way to choose camellia cultivars is to read about their history and characteristics. Check out their bloom patterns and colour - are there any special features that you want your camellia tree to possess? You could also do a search on Pinterest. A lot of gardeners use camellia's as part of a group planting scheme where you plant other shrubs and herbs with one of the camellia cultivars to create a showy garden display.

When you're selecting camellias, you'll probably want to choose between semi-double, double and single camellia flowers.

How tall does high fragrance camellia grow?

- Ask a plant expert for help with your specific problem

I have a 6 inch tall plant.

I have no idea what the name of it is. But one leaf has white spots on it. It looks like they are growing out. I don't know if that is normal or not. What should I do?

It sounds like whitefly and I would move that plant to a much more isolated spot. Whitefly don't care whether the leaves look healthy or not. Once you are sure that is what you have, treat for whitefly with soap and water.

If I could change one thing in my garden what would it be? - Ask a plant expert for help with your specific problem. Hello, I love all of your advice. But as much as I want to read it, I don't know how to email you. I want to thank you for all of your wonderful suggestions. I will go right to it. When I was gardening last year I bought a bunch of camellias. One of them was about 8 feet tall. I planted it where it was supposed to grow. And I started it from seed. It started to grow in just a few weeks. I had it in pots until then. Then when I put it in the ground it was about 4 feet tall. I moved it to the shade area of the garden. The leaves were turning orange and brown. I thought it was dying. I watered it as usual and it wasn't getting better. Now it is 6 feet tall. It has a very dark green trunk and the trunk is very thick. The leaves are still turning orange and brown. The new leaves are very dark green. Should I keep watering it? Will it get better?

I am afraid to pull it out.
