How much does SDET bootcamp cost?

Is SDET a developer or tester?

I've been working with developers for the last year and a half, and I recently learned about something called Software Developer Experience Team (SDET). According to a quick Wikipedia search, "Software Development Experienced Teams" consist of "software developers, quality assurance, and quality assurance testers." It's definitely a new term to me, but it seems like the closest thing I've seen to a QA role in a software development company.

Here is what I know about SDETs: According to the Wikipedia page: "In many software development practices, there is a need for an explicit role between software developers and a team with whom they work; someone who ensures that the developers meet the defined requirements, while the developers ensure that they have written code that fulfills those requirements, before it is reviewed by the testing team." So, would it be fair to say that "SDETs" are someone's job description, consisting of: Software Developers. Testers. What is happening now. As far as my own direct experiences as a developer are concerned, I'm at a learning curve of a new developer, just being trained in TDD (Test Driven Development), but not sure what else I can do. The development environment I'm in has very limited opportunities to participate in anything other than "the usual". That is, unit tests, acceptance tests (if any), some integration tests, integration tests and a few end-to-end tests that have been implemented. What isn't done is unit test coverage. We don't even measure it for that project.

This sounds like a job where you could be doing everything, but that might be a good thing because you may become familiar with more of the framework of the tools you're using so you may be able to contribute more effectively. Would SDETs be more like a full-time role? What is this role like in companies that already have full-time, in-house testers? Would they be more like a QA person, ensuring that the quality bar is met during all stages of development, or would they be a part-time position, focused on testing a small chunk of the code every day? Would SDETs have any sort of authority or influence in the quality of the software they are checking? SDETs, aka "software development experince team", are nothing new.

Is there any certification for SDET?

Can any one give any links for any certification for these skills?

Any good job for experienced programmers? Any job or companies providing this type of development job roles, and so on? According to my (anecdotal) experience and what the people I know tell me - no, there is no SDET certification and there won't be any (if they ever existed at all), like there is no CISSP which makes you certified as a security expert (and we all know that there is no such thing anyway). You can be certified as Software Engineer and it doesn't mean you're ready to do SDET work. For most companies (if there are any companies still hiring) "certified engineer" would be something like Java SE or C#, not an SDET. For the most part, all developers that go into SDET positions are freelancers that want to work on projects from companies and not for companies themselves. I don't think that there is much need for a certification (or rather, certification program) for them, even though I would love to have one to have a reference point when companies call me.
