What to do if a cat is stray?
I have been searching everywhere on .
They will not touch my house. I even have pictures of them. They won't even cross the road for food or water. What do I do? I have a dog, and he is a real nuisance because he is afraid of them. It is killing me, that he gets so upset.
If you have any suggestions, please tell me. Jude, via The Guardian. Dear Jude. Thanks for writing in with your question. A stray cat has few chances of survival. The chances are extremely slim that one is willing to take a chance with you if it comes to that. If you see a small stray cat or kitten in your local area they could still be pregnant. Pregnant stray cats often give birth outside to conceal their offspring. It is always preferable for a cat to come into shelter than to face starvation.
Some organizations are willing to foster stray cats and kittens on their programs to provide veterinary care, food, and spay/neuter surgery to save lives and bring them home. In your situation, I would suggest that rather than putting a collar or other method of tracking a cat that doesn't want to be here on it, use your best discretion to find ways to protect your own space from this menace and make yourself less of a nuisance. It sounds like your home cat might be an unwanted pet as well. You may wish to bring him inside where he will not be subjected to any danger. A little time may beneficial. He can adjust to his new surroundings and learn to trust you, at which point he can be returned. Also, check out Animal People for some ideas on how to handle your pet. They have good articles on this topic.
We have two kittens that I adopted as a mom and dad from a local animal shelter (they were about a year old when I found them). The mom never showed any interest in raising her kittens. My first kitten had her babies and lived at a neighbor's house until I got him about two months later. Since then, my kitten has been raised as our own.
In some respects, I agree with the article posted about the owner who kept the cat outside. The cat had no right to live in our home when there are many other houses for that cat to live in.
What does it mean if a cat is stray?
It means that the cat is out of its home or home territory.
They are found roaming free in the city and in other places. They're not lost, but are out of their comfort zone.
Stray cats are often abandoned because they're ill, injured, or have medical conditions. Some of these reasons for abandoning a cat are: Too old or weak to survive outside. Lack of social skills. Too old to be spayed or neutered. Excessively aggressive. Habituated to a home. They have been hit by cars. Some of the cat's previous owners may not have treated them properly. If you know about the stray cat, you'll be able to provide it with a better life. What does it mean if a cat is feral? Feral cats are also free-roaming, and they have no home or territory to return to. The term feral refers to wild or untamed. These cats don't have access to food, shelter, veterinary care, or other resources that can make them happy.
There are many reasons why cats become feral. This includes not being properly fed or cared for, not being spayed or neutered, and being abandoned. The reasons why the cat is feral include:
Disrespectful of humans. Unwilling to be handled. They are either too old or sick to live in a home. The cat has been hit by a car. A previous owner had treated them poorly. Cats that become feral are very hard to manage. If you want to handle the situation and rescue the cat, it's important to provide it with a good home. You can take care of the cat, and also find ways to help them remain in their natural state.
What does it mean if a cat is rescued? Rescued cats don't have a home or territory to return to. The cat is found wandering in the city and other places. They're often abandoned because they're ill, injured, or have medical conditions.
If you know about the rescued cat, you'll be able to provide it with a better life.
What is a stray cat called?
I don't know a whole lot about the way it is in the UK, but my understanding was that they don't like people to be very close to their cats as they would be at risk of being scratched or bitten.
I have a friend who has an outdoor cat who can come inside for food and water, and has been neutered. However, the cat is extremely aggressive towards other cats and humans and is on medication.
It is now about a year since I met this cat and it was very apparent that she likes to go into houses and find places to make herself comfortable. She had a large litter box, which was placed at the front of the house. She was never in the garden, but was often seen in the garage or in the bedroom.
It was agreed that we could leave her to go back into the garden when she was finished, as she seemed happy enough. However, the cat has recently started "scratching" the door of the house when she wants to go outside. There are no holes or anything in the door, it's just her nails scratching the wood.
What do you think the cat is doing? Is it because it is so hot outside? Or do you think she may be "messing with" us? Is it right to be concerned about your neighbours when it comes to this? Would it better to talk to them or to just deal with it yourself? She's probably just bored. Outdoor cats (or indoor cats with a big enough yard) sometimes get bored and start exploring. If it's not outside her boundaries, she's just exploring her limits. It sounds like she'll be fine when you let her out again.
I agree with TheOtherOne and she's just bored. I have a friend with a Siamese who doesn't do this and whenever she decides she wants to go out, she goes up to the roof or something. If you're worried about any kind of damage, maybe there's a cat flap and you could install a screen door that she couldn't get through? I think the thing to do would be to just let her explore when she's in the mood.
The other possibility is she's getting into the habit of knocking and scratching on doors. This isn't new behavior for her, but it is new for you and that's why you might be concerned.
Is it OK to keep a stray cat?
My house is full of cats. They have names. They're not here because I'm a cat lover or even because I like cats. I got them because they were at risk of being killed.
When I first moved into this house, a neighbour who was trying to be kind to me tried to take in a stray cat. I had no room for a cat. But she was adamant that I couldn't say no and that if I did she would try to force me to take the cat. So I said OK.
The neighbour brought the cat to my house and for the first time I felt the love and affection of a cat. The cat came with a pedigree but it was not registered. I did not know this until after it had been living with me for a month. But it had the most beautiful eyes and I'm a sucker for beautiful eyes.
The cat was a black-and-white with gorgeous orange paws. And it was adorable. I called it Puss.
The first night I slept with Puss on my bed. The cat made the bed warm and snug. It was the only thing that kept me awake at night. Puss was a cuddler. When I tried to put it outside in the morning it would cry. But it would return to my bed every night.
I went to work and was gone for 12 hours. When I returned home, the cat was still there. It would sleep in the sun and only leave my bed when I did. I fed it and then it slept. We were friends.
Puss was always with me. When I went out, the cat would go out with me. When I went to bed, Puss would go to bed with me. When I went on the computer, Puss would watch.
I had the perfect cat for a while. It was mine.
But then one day, I found a cat in my garage. It was starving. It was thin. It was barely alive. I tried to save it but it was too late. I couldn't save it.
I tried to get rid of it but there were people who didn't want a dead cat in their garage. I took the cat to the Humane Society.
