What do you need to be a junior QA engineer?
This is an interesting question and I've been thinking about it for a while.
While there are a lot of people out there asking for "junior" QA jobs, there is no definition of what that really means. How many years of experience do you need to be a QA engineer? What is the minimum amount of experience? If you want to be a "senior" QA engineer, how many years of experience do you need?
I've been a QA engineer for over 10 years now, and I'm about to finish up my masters degree. However, I'm not sure if this is the right time to apply for a QA position. I have no problem with people starting off as junior QA engineers, but should they be expected to have at least 2-3 years of experience? I'd like to make the point that this is a job that takes a long time to learn, and unless you're spending 3-4 years in school just learning the basics of testing, it's going to take a long time to really understand how to test software properly.
What do you think? What does a junior QA engineer look like? Do you think this is a good time for me to look for a QA position? I think you've just answered your own question. Most people who are looking for a junior QA position are either in school or just out of school. Most of the work that's done on the product is usually done by developers.
As a senior QA engineer you'll be able to take the time to get an understanding of the architecture of the product and its modules. You'll also be able to design the tests that you need to run. As you learn more, you'll be able to find the bugs faster and will get a better understanding of how the system works. This will help you understand more about the product and allow you to identify areas that can be improved.
I agree. If you are just out of school, it is not too early to apply. I've found that if you don't have experience yet, you should get that experience in a junior position so that you know what is expected. Some companies hire people out of school as QA engineers straight out of school, however I would recommend doing some real work in the field first. That way, when you do get hired, you'll know exactly what to expect.
What is the role of junior manual QA?
This is a discussion on ?
Within the C programming forums, part of the Platform Development category; Ok, I'm at college doing programming stuff, I know theory but when it comes to actually implementing it I run . I'm at college doing programming stuff, I know theory but when it comes to actually implementing it I run into problems. I'm currently writing a simple app that basically gets the number of pixels in one of 3 different size boxes, and if the answer is odd or even, if you guess right how much points you get, or something like that. Anyway my problem is how to implement the QA, the manual part in this case.
Now normally we would just do a little check, make sure everything worked perfectly on a machine all the time, with all the programs we would need etc. And only if they were the same as what was on the programmer could we proceed to making the game. My question though is, how do I actually go about trying this myself? Do I have to buy a game and test it, get the answers right so I can proceed on to building my own thing, or do I just use a calculator or something to help me figure out the answer etc? As in, can I, for example take the values of each box and just do a quick sum by myself and see if it's odd or even (with the numbers being an integer). Obviously I don't want to write the actual coding code, I want to check for the basic things, so that I know if I got it right. So my question again is how do I go about doing this with a game(which hopefully you can show me).
What type of tests are you writing this game in? I could understand a single digit number guessing game, but multiple number guessing games can get tricky. Is it just an integer guessing game, like the number guessing thing we did on our math games class? If so, then that would probably be the easiest way to create a guess and see if it was correct. Or are you writing a logic based game, that involves thinking through situations in your head? The best way to implement that kind of testing is probably to create and save a data file with the conditions of the test, then see if the program works as expected, or not.
How do you write QA skills on a resume?
The question I am most frequently asked is, ?
The answer to that is, You don't. If you want to write anything about your QA skills on your resume, do not put them in the list of skills. It is not appropriate. The resume is a place for the employer to learn about your skills and qualifications. Skills should be in your resume; QA experience is not an appropriate place for this information.
What I tell people is that you can write QA skills on a cover letter. If you have a cover letter, I strongly encourage you to mention the QA skills that are important to you.
So, if you want to show QA skills on your resume, do the following: If you have worked with any QA skills, include those skills in the list of skills that you have. Mention how much you enjoy working with QSay something about how you learned and use these skills. Give examples of how you have used your QA skills. Be specific. Do not just say QIf you have worked with these skills, say so. If not, say why.
Your resume is not a place to tell stories. It is not a place to say how you feel. It is a place for the employer to learn about your skills. Your resume should never say what you feel.
If you don't feel comfortable telling stories about how you use your QA skills on a resume, then don't mention them. Just don't.
