Is there a desktop version for Signal?
I tried installing it and it said there was no server found, but I have a server installed.
The desktop client is only available for iOS and Android. There is a Signal Desktop version available, but it's only for Windows, Mac and Linux.
Thanks, i'm on linux so there is a bit of confusion but I just wanted to try and send and recieve a signal from the desktop app. Is there some way I can find out where the local computer or whatever the term is running? I'm very new to linux so i'm not really sure what to google.
EDIT: I think I understand now, thanks for the clarification, I think i'll stick to the mobile version for now. What you're looking for is a "desktop app". The app that runs on your phone/tablet (iPhone or Android) is the desktop client.
The desktop client, in addition to running on your phone, also runs on your PC. The desktop client sends and receives messages to and from your phone, as well as to other people who use desktop clients (Windows, Mac or Linux).
You can't install a desktop client on your phone, because it runs on your PC and not your phone. The desktop client requires your phone to be able to connect to the internet. You can get the desktop client on a phone if you want to run it on a phone and access it through a browser on your phone.
That's correct. Your phone is your desktop. The desktop clients run on your phone and on your computer (you can run a desktop client on your phone but you can't install a desktop client on your phone).
If you want to use the desktop clients, you need a desktop client. You're welcome. If you want to use the mobile clients, you don't need a desktop client, but it helps to have a desktop client if you want to connect to other people who use desktop clients.
Hi.e. I'm trying to use signal on my Windows 7 laptop. So far I've installed and set up the Windows app (the mobile app), but when I try to create a new chat with a phone number I'm given an error:
Error: Could not find any servers to connect to. Please check your network connection and try again.
How do I scan a QR code on my Signal?
If you've bought a new phone, it might have a QR code on it to help you find your phone in the future.
You can scan the code with your camera app to unlock or update your phone. You can also use the camera app to send a code to your phone.
Note: The codes will only work if your phone has a camera (not all phones have one) and the code has not already been used before. ? From your apps menu, tap Settings. If you're having trouble finding it, go into the settings for your app first (Signal), then look for the setting that lets you scan codes.
In Signal, go to Settings > Scan codes. Note: If you're having trouble locating your settings, you can go to the apps screen in the settings menu. How to find a Signal. When you don't have your phone in hand, you can use your voice to find your phone. You just need to say what you call your phone. Voice recognition is built into the apps on the Signal devices, so you don't need to pair your device with a new smartphone.
From the settings for your app, tap Voice. If you haven't spoken a location name for your phone in awhile, you can tell the system how to identify your phone. Say, for example, "My phone is black". Once you've set a name for your phone, you can speak a message to your device.
Your app may show you a progress bar while it's searching for your phone. It usually takes about 5 seconds. When it does, your phone will start vibrating with the name of the nearest Signal.
How to send a Signal. Your phone has built-in QR code scanners that enable you to share content like your Signal in the form of a digital file. There are no limits to how many times you can scan codes, however there is a limit to how many codes you can send at once to your phone.
With an app or the camera, you can scan a code to send or receive a code. The camera app also has an address book feature that enables you to scan an address, email, or phone number for quick access to a Signal. With both apps, the QR code is read automatically when the phone's camera is activated.
Can I use Signal on the Web?
Yes, Signal is supported on the Web, but this might break in the future.
At the moment it's available as an installable version for Linux and Windows; macOS versions should come soon. If you're using a non-Linux or non-Windows platform, we hope you'll consider using the regular, desktop app.
Signal Desktop works great! I've been using the beta version on my iPhone for a few months now. I think it has reached its final form and I am very happy with it.
But when I tried it on my new MacBook Pro with Yosemite, my favorite features such as the audio quality were not available to me. There was no microphone option available, so I had to use another software that worked with the microphone at the time.
Today, as I was sitting here, I decided to read about how to use Signal Desktop via SSH and see if it would be possible to run Signal Desktop directly from my Mac. I was able to download the latest signal-desktop and get it running on my Mac. It looks like I will be able to use my laptop as a VoIP phone with audio quality that surpasses most of the softphones out there.
I am looking forward to seeing Signal make it into my MacBook Pro and I am happy to see Signal grow and evolve to fit a more complete use case for all. I have used it for a while and its pretty good. Works well. The only things I didn't like were that it doesn't always connect, sometimes takes a few minutes to actually connect and you can't send messages unless your in a group.
I am running it via VNC on a windows machine to my mac. Its very nice I have used it for a while now and am really liking it.
When I first opened it up I just went ahead and downloaded the latest release from google play to my phone and then opened signal on the android side. To say the least its pretty good. I found its not entirely perfect, but I have a few tweaks I'm working on.
But I am really wondering if this isn't something that could be done on the pc side. I think I have been told this before on this forum and I can't recall where I read it.
If were to have signal installed on the android side it would work perfectly.
