How to reply to a 1-star review?

This is the question that has never been answered. What should I say when I see a 1-star review? I usually ignore it, but some users don't get a chance to reply to the complaint. Do I say anything, or just try to be as friendly as possible? I don't like to leave a nasty comment, but sometimes they get a little annoying. Just wanna know what other people's opinions are on this topic.
If someone has a website or blog, then they have "reputation." The internet isn't real. If you've had your website taken down, then just start again. The next person will find you and will eventually leave a 1-star rating. There is also nothing they can do about a one-star rating - they can't change their opinion without going back to the first page they ever looked at, there is nothing they can change except deleting their profile. So just ignore those and move on.
I've never had a bad 1 star review so I don't know how I'd react, but if it's a problem I could take that down, etc. If it's just something that doesn't matter a whole lot (a very small minority of negative ratings) I don't feel the need to respond - even the ones I feel really need a response aren't super irritating. But in case it's someone who's trying to make a bad situation seem good, I try to be as polite as I can be. If the user's being rude then it's better to just let it go, but if I feel like they're just having a bad day, why not reply and tell them that things are fine? I don't do this frequently, but I try to at least put a bit of effort into it.
How important is reputation with google? Also do companies use negative reviews to affect their seo rankings or sales? It's really annoying me and getting pretty tiring dealing with 1-star reviews. I don't know the answer, but I'm sure a Google rep would be happy to provide any insight. They do affect sales. I've seen them. However, I understand that most of the reasons for low review ratings are just that: mistakes. They make mistakes on the website. They leave too early.

Do they ever happen to you? I get one star reviews on a fairly regular basis and I don't know what to do with them. What do you do? I have had one star reviews happen to me. One of the very first blogs I started was called The Best Of. It was my place for sharing what I thought were the best recipes, food, drinks and photography. I posted my own recipes there and shared the best ones I had found from other bloggers. I thought it would be easy to post the recipes and share the links to other great recipes.
One day I got a one star review. I checked it out and I have never seen that blog post again. I asked some friends and they told me I should probably take it down. I took it down for a couple of weeks and then I started up a new blog. I called it Good Food. I continued to post some of my favorite recipes and tried to also share a variety of topics.
Over time I started to see more and more one star reviews come in. I had one person send me several emails telling me how horrible I was. I had someone write a long rant about me and then send me a link to her rant. I was told I was stupid for trying to help others and that I needed to stop trying to help others because I was a failure. I had a one star review from a friend who was angry with me because I had told her she looked too thin and was actually quite fat. She told me I was an idiot.
I know people are going to say I should just ignore it all. I have but what if the reviews are real? What if the people are actually angry? What if I actually offended them or made them angry? I don't want to ignore it all. I try to be open minded and I try to respond to each email or comment and see if I can help. What can I do?
What do you do when you get one star reviews? How do you handle it? It really is a very personal thing and you have to decide what to do. You have to decide what your own values are. If you have to choose between your heart and your wallet, then go for your heart. That may not always work. That is why you have to decide what to do.

After years of answering these questions, I've learned that it doesn't matter how you respond to a 1-star rating. The only thing that matters is that you respond.
I've seen many apps get 1-star reviews just because the user wasn't very happy with the app in the first place. Sometimes the customer is not satisfied because the app doesn't do exactly what they want it to do. But sometimes, it's just because the user didn't want to pay for the app. It could be that they think the developer is a scam artist and they are getting their money's worth out of the app.
How do you deal with 1-star reviews? Here's how you can deal with 1-star reviews: Do nothing. If you're a smaller developer and don't have a lot of users, do nothing. Let your reviews stay.
If you're a larger developer and have a lot of users, let them stay. Do not delete them.
If a customer complains about the app, send them a private message on Twitter, Facebook, or email. Let them know how they can contact you. Don't delete their review.
If a customer complains about the app and gives you a 1-star rating, don't take it personally. Remove the app. This is a simple solution. If the app is a waste of time and not worth the money, why would you keep it up there? Delete the app. There are two main reasons why you might delete the app: You're getting more 1-star reviews than 5-star reviews. The app does not work as advertised. For example, if a 1-star review is because the app doesn't do what it promises to do and the customer wants their money back, you have to remove the app and refund the customer. Don't delete the app.
