Why won't my Private Internet Access connect?
I have used PIA for about a year and it has always worked for me.
I used it as my standard ISP for a while and was fairly happy with it, but recently I tried to get it to work on an additional computer that I want to use it for my VPN. No matter what server I set, connection attempts fail. The odd thing is, I am able to connect to a VPN server on my phone and other devices.
I have used both the "simple" and "Advanced" option to setup my VPN. When I run the configuration tool the connections just hang there forever (even when they should have connected) or take a very long time to connect.
I've updated the OS to the latest update (5.3) and the connection has never worked. I can ping the PPTP server IP and even open up a browser. My internet connectivity is fine. If I set the DNS manually for the PPTP server it connects, but I don't want to do that since if the DNS fails then I will be unable to resolve hostnames (eg I cannot access the PIA website).
I have tried to set up multiple servers, with and without the gateway/proxy option. I have set up PIA on another computer (which is working fine) so I'm sure that's not the problem. I'm out of ideas and any help would be greatly appreciated. If you're having issues connecting with this router, check and double-check your settings; especially your DNS and Proxy settings. PIA uses a dynamic DNS service provided by the people who run it. It's not something you have to subscribe to. It's a service with a limit of 5 servers, it's free. I run it on my home server (it's really quick for me to change the server name, etc. You can also have it do a reverse lookup. It's a handy service to have if you don't know where the internet server is.
The gateway/proxy setting was never in place for this router and was removed with the latest firmware (5.3) It seems like the only remaining configuration is DNS, however that isn't working. I tried setting up the DNS to the IP address of the server and the domain (eg 123.123), however those don't work either. Any ideas?
